Finally passed it on!

Hey all,

so I officially passed my DJ down to my daughter. She turned 18 a few months ago. In my mind I alway envisioned this moment like some big occasion and something that would be done in the twilight of my life. I am 38 now just for reference. It started out with a simply question (can I try that on) and she just kind of kept it. I purchased my DJ back in 2014, new from the AD. It was my milestone Rolex and my first. It’s been well worn, I wore it every single day for about 8 years. No matter what I was doing, it was in my wrist. So it’s cool to see her wearing it now. She likes it and wears it all the time too. She seems to be into watches (more on the fashion side) so I try to encourage the love of the hobby. She has some things to learn but she is getting there. BTW give her a break on the bracelet and watch on the same wrist!

Anyways just thought I would share it with some enthusiasts who would appreciate it. Anyone else have a story of passing a Rolex or watch down?

Excellent. Something that will make you both smile every time you look at it. A wonderful memory for both mother and daughter. Well done.

Nice to see that you and your daughter are not troubled by OCD, very refreshing

Oh for sure. Watches are to be worn! I mean the first scratch on my Sub was a little tough. But I got over it fast!

Yeah, my Speedy Reduced has made its way to my son gradually after I bought another Speedy 1861 for myself. He enjoys and appreciates watches so this is a good thing. I received it as a graduation gift from my parents over 30 years ago so this is nice.

I am giving my Speedy to my daughter, as I have no desire to wear it anymore. She however, loves it.

I love it!! Great story!! The best part is “Dad, can I try your watch on?” Daughter thinking (*possession is 9/10ths of the law, he ain’t getting this back unless he asks for it back.”)

Great to hear! Gave my Dad's 16013 to my daughter after wearing it for 30 years. Her turn to enjoy.

How old should they be before the kids deserve your Rolex

Yes. My 23 year old did very well at University. Unlike his 2 (lovely) adult siblings, he showed an interest in my Rolex collection. I gave him any one he wanted from it. He chose the Bluesy. He’s 23. Yes, maybe he’s too young. But he takes care of things and is streetwise. So I passed it on. I asked a very tall CEO why he was resigning from an international UK listed company about 8 years ago. He said: you’re always too early or too late.

I went early with my eldest. What’s the right age of recipient to pass something this valuable on?

Jamie Callum sings the blues beautifully. Has done since his early 20s. Did he feel enough Blues pain to sing the Blues with experience in his 20s? Probably not. Does that matter? Same with Rolex. Should you earn the right to wear one, or grow into one? I’m curious.

Awesome! And nobody should give you(her) grief for the bracelet. That's what's great about this, YOU get to wear your watch and jewelry, etc, however you darn well please! I look forward to the day I give me boys watched on their 18th.

Great story. Not a fan of the wiring shown in the photo. Driving with ear plugs/headphones is not good and I am pretty sure that that jeep would have bluetooth

Well done. Looks great on her. My 11 year old daughter dream watch is the BLNR… at least I’ve got some time to pick one up for her.

Kids can be shifty that way

Dave, congratulations to your daughter. I hope that every time she wears it, she has fond memories of dear old dad … which by the way you aren’t even close to being old

Its never too late my friend. You're right in the wheel house IMHO.

Old enough to have a solid foundation, young enough to keep up

Thanks Brian!! If it happens cool. If not, it wasn’t meant to be. Status quo 3-5 yrs from now then it’s gonna be seriously looking at adoption time or chucking the idea all together.

My oldest will eventually get my BLNR and youngest my SubC. But they have a long way to go.
