1. History & Heritage: How the 24h hand was developed at the request of Pan Am airlines
2. Reverence to the past: The GMT has stayed true to that heritage with minimal changes compared to earlier models.
3. Excellent proportions & fit: 40mm wide, 11.9mm thick, 48mm lug to lug. Wide appeal and no overly large.
4. It defines the category: There is no true peer from other brands.

I think he's spot on. It is why the GMT enjoys similar pull as the Daytona despite being produced in larger numbers. (GMT Grey price for BNIB is about 2x MSRP, on par with SS Daytona)

I would argue the sub has stayed truest out of all the sports models and it also defines and dominates the dive watch category. That is my choice for best and most iconic Rolex sports watch... But don't get me wrong I still want a GMT!

The SS black sub is indeed very similar as always. But these days there are so many variants eg. Green & Blue that stray from the tradition.

The Master II can almost do it all. Land, air, and just enough sea. The proportions of the watch are almost perfect. And, the aviation history behind it makes it a “must have” for aviation enthusiasts like myself.

You could say the same about the Submariner. After all, the GMT Master has been through many bezel colour variations and combinations since the original 6542BLRO, not to mention a choice of bracelets. I think the GMT Master is more versatile and would be my preference if I couldn't own both.

I think that's overstating it, although a brushed bracelet on a BLRO would be my perfect GMT Master. Maybe Oyster maybe not, the original BLRO came on a brushed Jubilee.

I have come to the conclusion that the GMT is the best STEEL sports model available. You just can't beat its versatility.

The Daytona is my favorite model, but have come to realize it works best in precious metal.

As an owner of both, I have to agree. To me the Submariner is closer to its roots than the current BLRO. YMMV

Definitely a missed opportunity, thankfully it is something that can be remedied by either brushing the original bracelet or pony up a couple of thousand for a new Oyster and having that one brushed for 2 looks in one.

I am thinking of getting a second bracelet to compliment the jubilee I have, and if I do so it would be 100% brushed!

To me it’s all about the font change on the GMT bezel. I still love the watch, but I do wish they’d kept the OG bezel font and smaller number size. Also wish they’d offer brushed oyster. Those tweaks would make sub/GMT preference a toss up for me.

Agreed. Its one of the biggest departures (besides ceramics in general). I personally don't mind the new age font, but when you compare the 126710 to the original its quite a departure .

To my eye at least the Sunmariner is closer and like its predecessors, it only comes in one configuration ... black dial, black bezel and stainless steel.

Had both the GMT & Sub.....the turn off for me is the PCL on the GMT. I endured the PCL on the GMT, but prefer the Sub. I like the PCL look on solid gold watches like the DD & Platona, etc....but not on stainless steel.

The PCL sort of disappears on the Jubillee. Otherwise, I agree with you on the non PCL Bracelet.

Ummmm, for the GMT there is:
1. all black, black and blue, brown and black bezel options
2. Stainless, TT, and solid gold versions

I would say the Sub is most true to original and the GMT is almost (just half step behind) same.

Only BLNR is a real departure. Rootbeer has been around - sort of

I have both a rootbeer and a sub. I think the GMT and sub lines are pretty much even but if I have to pick I would pick the sub because it is the icon of Rolex along with the TT DJ.

The 116710LN GMT is basically a Submariner with a GMT function. Best of both worlds.
