Your 4th hand timezone?

If you have the GMT II or other watch that allows other than local time, which time zone do you have it set to? GMT? Another coast? I'm curious.

Mine is set to Qatar.

What's of interest in Qatar, Robert?

Not that I have a GMT, but I do set the bezel on my Tudor 79170 to reflect the time in Singapore, where I still maintain quite a few contacts.

When I'm home (Aus) I set it to UK where my folks are. When I travel I set it to Aus.

I have co-workers in Qatar and I check the time before calling or emailing them. I may be there one day too.

I'd rather have Afghanistan but they are 30 minutes off of a fixed hour.

Afghanistan is 30 minutes off???
I thought Newfoundland ( far eastern Canada for all you non-North Americans) was the only place that was 1/2 an hour off the rest of the world.

Mine is always set for East Coast (US) time - that's home time. I reset the hour hand for local time when I travel. I usually reset my watch at wheels up so I can gauge what time we'll be landing locally.

I don't have a 4th hand ( or separate indicator as on the PAM98), but when I do get one, It will be set on an eastern timezone corresponding to a few TRF's home times. I know I can add that few hours in my head, but that's what the GMT function is for.

Parts of India, including, Bombay, New Delhi and Calcutta, are also on a 30 minute offset.

So are Darwin and Adelaide, AU, Yangon, Myanmar (formerly, Rangoon, Burma), and Tehran, Iran.

Chatham Island, NZ, Kathmandu, Nepal are either -15 min or +45 min., depending on how you count.

When not traveling to a different time zone I keep mine set at GMT. Usually more interested in what the time is in Europe.

Right now I'm keeping mine set to "home time". I memorized the few different places I need and just rotate the bezel to whichever one I want and leave it there. It actually does come in handy since I work with people in several different time zones.

Good question!

I keep the 24 hour hand on my new GMT Master II set to GMT time and rotate the bezel to reflect local, PDT (GMT -7), time. Having the 24 hour hand set to GMT allows me to lookup the timezone off a common timezone chart and turn the bezel to see the time at that zone.

Set for California PDT:

It's kind of funny how the photo came out with a slight blue cast to the dial.

Not parts of India, Ed....the whole of India is just one time - it's called IST, i.e. Indian Standard Time. You are right about it being 30 minutes off. In fact, right now India is 6½ hours behind NZ time.

You are also right about the other cities and countries.

When I had a GMT-II and even a white and black dial Exp-II, I always kept the 24-hour red hand on local time.

I don't travel.

I set mine with the12 hour hand on Local (GMT +4), the 24 hour hand on EST (GMT -4) and I use the bezel to check Zulu time.

I know, James, but would you believe that I'm one of those rare guys who hates to pack a bag and travel?

Given the option between say a new watch or the same money to be spent for travelling....you know which way I'll go!!

I change alot of time zones. But when I am home(Macau) I keep the 4th hand(Red one) on UTC time, bezel set to 12 o'clock, and the others on local time...GMT +8. i.e. Local time (Macau) 1800 hrs, GMT time 1000 hrs.
When I travel I dont change the red hand, I just rotate the bezel(Black and Red GMT II by the way....) either between leaving the triangle on the bezel on 12 o'clock so I can see GMT time or rotate the bezel to GMT +8 for local time at home(so I know when to check in!!). I adjust the independant hour hand to reflect the local time in the place I am....Presto, 3 time zones!!!
What a marvelous idea these GMT II's......
Thats my set up....
cheers

I have a 16750, so my 24hr hand can't be set independently.

When I had a GMT I always had the second time zone set to west coast time. I have friends out there that I call often.

Wow, since this thread has been resurrected, I'll chime in...

I set the 24-hour hand to GMT time, then rotate the bezel for various timezones, such as for central Europe, East Cost, Taiwan, etc.

We'll have no thread before its time...

I keep my GMT hand to nine years in the past.
