Time to Invest?

Is now a good time to stock up on watches or has the bottom not quite fallen out yet?

Since they were thought of as nothing more than ££$$€€ objects and nothing more.

Asking prices are not even back to where they were a year ago - I have no idea which direction things go from here, but so far the the bottom hasn't fallen out.

I don't like to think of my passion for watches as an investment.
For me, watches are used, admired, marked happy hours, but they are not investments.
I never thought about selling one of my watches.

Yes. Sell everything you own and liquidate your 401k. And borrow as much as you can at high interest rates.

Then buy every Rolex you can find. But don't wear any of them. Don't even take pictures as the flash may harm the patina.

Put your "investments" in a lockbox. Then monitor youtube and instagram for the best time to sell.

Reading your post OP I think that this forum might not be the right one for you and that investing, in anything, might not be the the right ting for you either.

The funny thing is the last 10 years this would have proved extremely viable lol

Agreed. But hindsight is everything. And so are the caveats.
  • If, you purchased at the right time.
  • If, the tax bite on liquidating your 401k or other "investments" did not hammer you.
  • If, the assets you sold did not appreciate at a better return.
  • If, you timed your sale at the right time.
  • And if you had an established reputation with which to garner the high prices secondary markets were selling at.
"Were" being the operative word. Because, while a lot of watches are listed, sales, even by established secondary sellers are lagging. Stock is sitting. Personally, I think the secondary market has been saturated. And it is like buyers got a cup of coffee and woke up. Appetite to purchase above MSRP, even at some what reduced prices from where they were earlier this year, is anemic to put it mildly.

Will prices go back up. Usually do. But are we there yet? No one on this forum or YouTube knows. But everyone is willing to offer an opinion. My personal opinion is that for the majority of us, watches as "investments" is a silly concept.

LOL - that took about 4h for padi to respond. Next we should ask him whether watches are to be worn or coddled in a safe....

When you see posts asking if it’s time to invest then you know it’s too late.
