114060 for a 16700?
Considering trading a 114060 for a 16700 (photos attached). Any thoughts on this idea or any red flags with the watch in question?
Cheers! |

The 16700 is a great watch. Keep in mind that it does not have the jumping hour hand so your GMT hand will only function as a 24-hour, and not as a second time zone. For me, I’d want that, which would have me looking at any GMT Master II.

Personally, I’d hold out for a clean 16710. There’s no real savings with the 16700, and those lugs have been cut too aggressively IMHO.

I would do it personally. Then again I suffer from a 5 digit bias as I think the proportions are perfect, plus you are adding a date and GMT feature. Water resistance is still as deep as you want to go anyways. I would

Over polished & keep your sub or go for a clean 16710 full set.

Can’t I adjust the bezel to give me the second time zone?

I’d do it. 5 digit GMT all the way. Everyone has a Sub.

Keep the modern Sub and save your money for something like a 1675.

Yes the 16700 can have two time zones. The 24-hour hand DOES act as a second time zone - just rotate the bezel to the hour you want the 24-hour hand to indicate.
Bobcat sig seems to be confused and misleading in his post regarding the functions for the GMT 16700.

Not a fan of 116xxx and 114xxx refernces
It was a mistake of a design with maxi case and sq lugs Even Rolex realized that when they released 41mm sub line with much more profound lugs and 21mm bracelet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

100% 16700, and it’s a no brainer question. 16700 is the last production of GMT I and only produced from 1988 to 1999 which coexisting with 16710 GMT II for certain period. It’s quick set date is much more useful than the independent hour setting and three time zone of GMT II. I said that because I have both GMT I & II. Non date Sub is just too popular and with large quantity out there, not rare at all.

IMHO I also feel that the 16700 is a no brainer. Its the last GMT I and often overlooked. If you can find the Mk2/3 it is even more rare. It is a Swiss only dial and produced 1997-1999 for approx 2 years.

I would also do that trade. Hard to beat an aluminum-bezel GMT.

The bracelet is a killer on the 5 digits for me - did have a 16710 some years back and fitted a modern bracelet which made a big difference to wearability - ultimately swapped it for a 6 digit GMT which I much preferred- personal choice though Good luck on whatever you do

Do it. You’ll feel instantly lighter without going to the gym. This GMT is roughly 50 grams lighter than this 6 digit maxi case Sub and thinner too.
