Breitling Superocean Bronze

The San Diego Breitling boutique had an event this evening and had some pre-release models in the store. They had the two new bronze Superocean watches - the 44m brown dial on a brown rubber strap and the 42mm green dial on a (you guessed it) green rubber strap.

I've to say the brown dial is stunning! I was completely impressed!

I guess that they're actually going to be released in October. I think I might pick one up.

Wow, looks great. I put a deposit down for the brown one last month. The NY Boutique is under the impression they are coming in this month. Has that been pushed back?

How does it feel, weight wise, bronze vs steel Superocean?

Hmmm.... Not sure if it was pushed back, but, the San Diego boutique usually gets stuff fairly early. The manager did tell me October, but, it was quite busy and there were a lot of folks there. He told me that I would get the first one the store got though.

Honestly, there really wasn't much that stood out to be about the weight... but, I held it right after holding the rose gold Chronomat which is like a brick, so, it's not surprising that the weight didn't stand out to me.

This watch looks amazing. My question is about case. Is it going to have patina over time?

That's a good question. I hadn't really thought about it and was just assuming it would. I'll give Breitling a call later to see if they can identify the bronze makeup.

I was told that the material used by Breitling for the case is Silicon Aluminum Bronze CuAl7Si2, for what's that worth. It seems that this type of bronze can potentially patina but not to the extent of Panerai; for example, it gets more grey color / darker over time vs various greens.

These have finally made it to the boutiques! I put a deposit down in August and was notified today that they received one of the bronze models. The boutique changed the purchase agreement that permitted a return period, since I am out of state and can't see it in person at the time of purchase. Being unsure of how they look in person and not thrilled about the type of bronze, I asked for a refund of the deposit. I'm sure this sold before they closed today, but if anyone is looking, try the boutique in NY...they had one a few hours ago.

When looking further into this watch, I discovered the back of the case is bronze as well. This is a very unusual approach for a bronze watch, as you will get a green wrist. I inquired with the Breitling Boutique I had pre-ordered from about whether they had coated the bronze with something and they could not provide an answer. After giving this watch a thorough look, I think Breitling had the chance to hit it out of the park and missed.
