brand new daytona damaged

New daytona oysterflex is damaged by dealer during adjustment of clasp. Noticed few days after the purchase. My dealer says he can fix it but I'm not sure if I want to bring it back to him. My questions are, how can it be fixed by repair center? Will it devalue after repair?

If your ‘dealer’ did that I would stay away from them.

Take it to a RSC.

Looks like one of my old GMT's! ouch..

You mean any Rolex store? Do they service watch there? Or they have to send to New York?

Was the dealer a Rolex AD, or a separate shop/company that is not an official Rolex dealer?

I would demand a brand new clasp and threaten them to forward the photos to Rolex HQ and all the Rolex forums exposing their AD name in case they refuse to order you a new one. Sometimes all these ADs are reacting to are threats and fear of losing new clients.

dont think it can be repaired. terrible technique and totally reckless, what a disaster! that's why I only buy watches from my AD, never trust grey dealers.

Yeesh. Damage like that takes tremendous effort. I would definitely ask for a replacement clasp. Sucks to see you go through an experience like this OP. Here’s a good reason to learn to do it yourself.

I don’t understand why anybody would not do this themselves rather than let any SA do this for them.
At home, proper tools, good light, no rush … a very easy DIY

This!
That man is dangerous with a screwdriver (second picture).
Give it to another AD, that will send to an authorized Rolex center,
but do not go back to the man that did such a mess.
Don't worry, anything can be fixed.
Simply, I should not trust a man that works in that way.
Welcome in the forum! and don't worry,
Rolex will fix it.

I can’t believe I am saying this but…….I am not sure what they even did to do that?? You might have had a better job if you asked the kid at Burger King to give it a shot.
I would demand a new clasp with new screws. Do not let them touch your watch again. Obviously they have no training or even basic knowledge how to do such a easy task. This is just another AD nightmare story.

Things happen and if they are going to make it right then give them a chance. My right would be a new clasp and screw. I would wear it until they came in and have them replace the damaged items. Good luck and nice watch.

I believe in not magnifying small issues. However, it’s unfortunate when people who lack skill or finesse screw up an expensive piece! Welcome and good luck!

But don't wear anymore until you've fully documented the damage, etc. If possible, maybe attach a clasp from another watch to your Daytona until fixed?

The big lesson here is that this is why one should always request that the AD's watchmaker do the sizing.

Personally, I'd just be glad that this wasn't a lug; a clasp can be replaced far more easily.

Agree entirely. If, for example, there were a grain of sand on the AD's glove/pad, and it put a hairline scratch on a new clasp, or the polished side of a case, I'd chalk that up to "$#!+ happens" and move on. Relatively unavoidable accident and not indicative of sloppy work.

This seems like a situation requiring laser welding on the side of the clasp, and possibly welding or polishing around the screw. That would need to go to Rolex for repair, since no dealer will have the tooling/training to do that on-site. If they say they can polish it out, run!

My aim would be to have a new clasp ordered, since it will also probably be a lot faster and you'll be able to hang onto/wear the old one until it arrives.

Let the RCS make the repairs. I would not trust the AD anymore.

Looks like he tried to hammer the spring bar in

If you do not have RSC close by…tell your AD to order you a new clasp and screw from Rolex. When it arrives, make sure to take it somewhere else to install. Don’t let them talk you into sending out the whole watch to RSC to fix/replace the clasp

Exactly that.
Obviously the guy who butchered this clasp hasn't had any Rolex training, which they should have done.

It's hard to see how that damage could have been done with a screwdriver... what was the person actually trying to do? In any event, I would be wary of letting the dealer take this on again..... just in case....

Have to agree on that one in the real world a very simple DIY task to do and not rocket science, and find it hard how anyone could do the clasp damage with a screwdriver.

Side damage looks like the spring bar was dragged along the inside of the clasp and then it “sprung” at the top, taking a bit of clasp edge with it.

The screw just looks like the screwdriver kept slipping.
