Visiting NYC Next Month - Rolex Shopping
Hello friends,
This is actually my 1st trip to NYC when I will have a little bit of time to walk around Manhattan, visit & maybe shop a little. I already mapped out several of the the Rolex ADs for my Sunday route. I will also have a bit of time Monday. The ADs include: Wempe, Watches of Switzerland, Tourneau, etc. Questions: 1) What are the chances of being able to find something at the store? 2) Are there any stores that you will flat out ignore? I want to use my limited time wisely. 3) Are there any stores that I must visit? I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you, MAC |

Honestly if you're visiting new york I would skip all the ADs and focus my time on seeing the city. Even if you were here for months, it would be impossible to see it all.
There'll be nothing to buy, or if there is anything, it will be highly undesirable. All the ADs are settup to service local clientele, and being NYC, there is no shortage of money.

If you get up to the upper West side and find yourself in the neighborhood of Husdon Yards, it is worth a stop at the Watches of Switzerland. It is a good size shop with plenty to look at - but do not expect to find that Daytona you are looking for. Hudson Yards is a cool destination when shopping in NYC (my kids who live in NYC hate it!), but I always find it an interesting stop.

Look at other brands. Scoring a Rolex or even seeing one thats not exhibition is unlikely. Good luck and enjoy the trip!

So, it extremely unlikely that you’ll walk into an AD and find something to buy.
That said, Manhattan is a Mecca of watch boutiques. In the area on 57th Madison you’ll find boutiques from all the major brands. Bucherer (née Tourneau) Time Machine on 57th is an amazing store carrying many top brands and it’s centrally located to the boutiques. If you want to spend a few hours looking at some of the worlds finest watches, that’s your play. If it’s about walking into an AD and buying a Rolex, well, chances are slim. Buying new Rolex in NYC is probably impossible for a visitor. If you like watches generally stop into Cellini and Wempe. Literally eye candy, especially Cellini with so many haute culture independent brands. Wempe carries all the top brands with many high-end complications. Supply issues are still an issue with imported watches overall so hopefully, there is still lots to see for you.

Don't count on seeing anything at any of the Rolex ADs. Other than demo models.
If you're just wanting to look at some nice watches you can brave 47th St. |

What travisb said. Don't map your visit with ADs, you will be wasting your time. Unless of course you enjoy trying on a few sparse expo models and then filling out your interest card, which immediately will either get lost / filed at the bottom of the pile (in any case, you won't hear back). If you're really looking for something, go to 47th street and go crazy. They have everything from all brands. Of course buyer beware |

While the ADs here receive more watches than your normal mom and pop AD, the potential client pool is massive. Focus on seeing the city or getting hands on with exhibition models because that is likely as far as it'll go.

WoS in SoHo couldn’t be less helpful when it came to Rolex to the point the didn’t even want to discuss the brand. They were eager to discuss other brands though. Tourneau I’m midtown (I think avenue of America’s?) was very friendly and seemed interested in building a relationship. Meatpacking was also friendly and seemed somewhat interested in new customers. That said, it’s NYC and the client base is massive

Thank you for all feedback. Planning to do a lot of walking & check out as many places as possible while I am there (not all of them watches).

A walk down 47th Street is recommended. Unreal seeing some of the models they have in the windows, obviously all above MRSP but great all the same!

Go to Bucherer and have a coffee or a drink. Don't expect to buy a watch.

Reminds me of my trip to Paris. The Bucherer Tudor just came out and for some reason I thought I can get one. I walked into the store and they practically laughed at me. Dont bother going to Ad you need a relationship these days to get a watch.

Pretty sure the Diamond District stores are closed on Sundays, or maybe just Saturdays. Every Rolex will be there for sale in multiples albeit with a premium. None of the AD’s will have anything besides the same exhibition models.
Wempe and the two WOS locations will be happy to show you all their other brands but there will be no Rolex for sale. Tourneau/Bucherer has lots of brands but I have always found them to be kind of high pressure. |

I just got back from NY and did the same thing. I went to a couple AD's and found the same amount of stock that my AD's have in LA (which is nothing). I did brave 47th and talked to multiple dealers there and just had a good time seeing all the available stock both Rolex and Patek and had a nice long conversation with one dealer in particular. Asked pricing and all was over priced compared to prices that can be found through sources like RF.

Visited New York recently and dropped into most of the ADs. Burcherer on 57th is worth a visit as it’s the flag ship. Treated great by Christopher Arts but alas nothing for sale. You’ll be by the AP, VC, RM, Jacob and co boutiques as well

The Rolex Boutique does put out a few pieces on weekends for walk in. My brother in law got a sea dweller deep sea SS by just walking in. He is not a local.

Go to the Diamond district. They have everything there.
Go to Tourneau Butcherer on 57th and Madison. You won’t find a watch but the experience is amazing. |
