Got the call for a birth year watch (for son)

I got the call from my SA at the AD when I asked her for a 2022 124060 to commemorate my first child’s birth. I asked to get it by 12/31/22 and she pulled through ahead of schedule. She got it 3 months after I requested it. I also had them engrave it for him—it’ll never get sold.

I think this rounds out my Rolex collection until I hand it off to him: daily, weekend/fun, and travel pieces. The 6542 doesn’t get worn, my grandfather gifted it to my dad when he graduated from the Air Force. The 6542 is engraved similar to what I have engraved.

Now the question—when is the right time to gift it? High school graduation, college graduation, or first full-time job? I’m leaning towards the latter.

Wow that is really cool - college graduate. The things kids do on college, not sure I would want my son running around with a Rolex!

Awesome gesture. You get to wear it for a good while and then do something awesome for your son. Win win

My vote FWIW would be give it to him when you think he's mature enough to handle it

Congrats!!!

You will feel the calling again soon. No way this is the end of your rolex collection. Just had a kid means you’re closer to the beginning than the end of your collecting journey.

Guaranteed it's some sort of code to an airport locker in Zurich which will be used to unlock the "final world order".

It reflects the number of letters in the words "I love you, always and forever "

I forgot all about that. Well the 143 part. I use to sign that on my wife's flowers. But it has been a minute since I sent her flowers

Might need to get on that

Should it be 243 (We love you) if it's from Mom & Dad?

I suppose, but I think the 143 is pretty engrained in many parts of society and almost a "word". I had a girlfriend in 1978 that signed her notes to me that way.

First job but pass it on when it needs a service. Here you go, son, it will set you back about $1,200, welcome to being a man.

Did the same for my son this year. First baby and actually got it the day before he was born and was able to get his birthday on the warranty card which I thought was cool. Kinda cool story, just happened to be there asking for a birth year rolex and another sales person was walking through the store with a Rolex and I said what is that, and they looked at each other like ok let him have it.
Was thinking of passing it when he gets married or has his first child- we’ll see.

That's awesome! To answer your question, I'd gift when you feel he is mature and responsible enough to take care of it. Side question, would you mind sharing your AD? Looking for a new one. I'm after a retirement watch for my dad but the AD I have history with wouldn't even consider me for a Rolex now a days.

After a few years you will know when the right time is. Every kid is different. Great gesture and will definitely be a nice heirloom piece.

Nice. College graduation or first job/first pay check with discussion about responsible spending.
