Lucky day - incoming

My wife and I are stationed in Okinawa and we decided to take a quick trip to Tokyo to do some shopping. With the exchange rate as “good” as it is compared to the Yen, we wanted to see if we could find her a Lady Dior ultra matte because it would basically be at a 20-30% discount. I also made an appointment to stop by at the AP boutique in Ginza while I was there - my SA was hadn’t returned from Switzerland so I was working with someone else, but she would be there when I arrived.
Anyway, I let them know I wanted to try on some 41mm RO’s because with a 7.75” wrist nothing smaller would look right. They told me they had models I could try on but none were available and that they weren’t taking names for the waitlist - which was all fine because I just bought an AP ROO there in March and the Marine Corps doesn’t pay THAT well, even for Officers!
Well, wouldn’t you know it, my nearly perfect English speaking SA who had sourced me an AP ROO in March, and with whom I had emailed quite frequently but had never actually met, was there and she had a surprise!
Much to my surprise, and partial dismay, she has sourced me a 41mm 50th anniversary silver ROC. She said she knew I wasn’t expecting it but she wanted to surprise me, and surprise me she did.
As much as I was used to the 43mm ROO and my 44mm DSSD, the 41mm fits bigger than one would think and it looked good. Even my wife was like… you should get it (she’s a keeper!).

Anyway, I told my SA I had to think about it overnight because this was not planned in the budget and having picked up the ROO only 7 months earlier, this was pushing it.

I couldn’t turn it down though! Given the exchange rate, I was able to buy it at MSRP which was 6.5 cheaper than in the US, and that’s before you add US sales tax… so overall, it was a steal.

She’s a beauty - obviously I was incredibly lucky as someone must have passed on it (she didn’t say that but I assume that’s what happened), and she was able to source it for me.

Apologies for the terrible cell phone pics in the cab later that evening and then the hotel room mirror.
Oh, and we were able to find her purse too :)

Congrats on that beauty! It seems times are changing and some are indeed hesitant on pulling the trigger these days. But that’s fine, happy to see more incomes for the real enthusiasts (:
I also believe that having the 50th anniversary is special and the finishing on the rotor is superior to the regular one.

Congrats Pat. Looks like we're getting all the same pieces this year... except they somehow look big on me but small on you!

Wow big congrats, even bigger when it’s a total surprise :-)

Silver dials always look stunning in the flesh.

It’s hard to say if times are changing or I just happened to get very lucky - im inclined to think the latter based off many posts on the forum. You’re right though, it would have been nearly fiscally irresponsible to pass on it! Haha

Haha thank you! Being 225lbs at 5’8” makes most things look small… except suits. Suits are me look like a clown!

Considering I’d never had an opportunity to even try on a 41mm - yes I agree! Lovely surprise!

Thank you. It is a nice change from my others which is really why I had hoped for white.

We also received a complimentary gift - besides the champagne and chocolates.

Wife is wearing it because I’m not sure it would fit me, even if it was something I’d wear. Not sure they’re worth anything but it’s a nice gift :)

I do need to sell my blue face 116622 Yachtmaster though to help justify this new one. I love the blue face but it feels much smaller than the 41mm RO and just doesn’t fit as well.

Congrats! Great piece. Have heard multiple stories now recently of people unexpectedly walking into the boutique and being offered a ROs. I mean people with prior buying history who were not necessarily expecting any pieces this year and just dropped by at the boutique to chat. Looks like the tides are turning.
