Thoughts on White Gold Sub (Blue)?

Hi all,

Still relatively new here. I've been interested in Rolex for some time and I'm drawn in by the scarcity value of the pieces and the secondary part about buying being a decent long term investment. So if I'm going to spend this kind of money on an indulgence at least I can have peace of mind about maintaining value.

I'm interested in building a my own collection, slowly and I made my first post here last week with my first purchase.

I was browsing around my ADs and chatting up and one told me they had a White Gold Blue Submariner (126619LB) available. It's a nice watch, but I do prefer the oystersteel variants of almost all the models.

It was available at MSRP, but that's a high price tag, but I'm not sure about the investment component of that type of watch. The gold versions of Subs and GMTs don't seem to be discussed too much and also not as difficult to find. But maybe I'm wrong.

Just interested in anyone's opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Short version … if you’re looking for an investment, do not buy that watch.

Yeah...as a newcomer, I would suggest you do a lot more research.

If you're looking for an investment, a watch is probably not what you want. There's an old saying in this business: If you want to make a million dollars watch collecting, start with two.

If you're looking for something that's going to decently hold value, well, they all pretty much will. As for trying to figure out which one's going to do a better job of that...well, that's pretty much a crap shoot and if it happens, it's likely not to be intentional on your part.

You're better off just getting the watch you like.

My favorite in the current Rolex lineup by a mile, but not an investment.

Thanks all.

Yeah I’m not looking at it exclusively as an investment. I understand that watches are certainly not the best tool for that.

The “investment” component is just one of the factors I am considering when looking to start to build my collection.

If you’re interested in a WG sports model with some blue, I would suggest the WG Daytona blue dial.

Have to agree but today many think that Rolex watches are nothing more than €$£ objects and nothing more.

I think better to start with steel, get a feel for the watch and design style. If like enough, then switch to the more expensive WG later. Much less regrets that way while figuring out what you like.

There’s a reason why the Blueberry is available.

I have to agree this perspective has become more and more common. It's just a watch.ive never thought otherwise in terms of investment. Surely you either like watches and want one or you don't. I'm also a mad cyclist, it's like me ponder the investment potential of a Trek versus a Colnago.

I used to think gold subs were not a good investment because 5 years ago or maybe a little more you could buy ceramic gold sub all day everyday for 24-26k. We all know what they sell for now. Anyone who thinks they are not a good investment must be new.

Not new. And I don’t think buying a WG Submariner is a good “investment”.
