Did I Regret Making That Daytona Trade?

Hey guys, here I am again. So.. I did make the trade I mentioned three months ago (recap: I started a thread about whether should I trade my OP+old BLNR for a BNIB Black Daytona 116500LN). Despite the fact that most people who replied to me were telling not to do so, but goddamn i was so in love with that Daytona so I went all-in. However, after I actually received the watch and held it in my hand, I suddenly started to question my own decision. All kinds of question started to bother me, like the PCL links got easily scratched, not having a watch with date window, or wearing a same watch everyday makes your passion fades away quickly (even it was your grail), etc.

Luckily, my AD didn't let me down. As I mentioned that I was waiting for the Rootbeer from my AD, one month ago, they, instead of delivering the Rootbeer itself, offered my the Black Sub W/ date. I drove to my AD the second I receive the text message.

God, it felt so good to have two watches. One for daily commute, and one for special occasions. With the second watch, I'm not gonna be worried about adding another scratch to my Daytona, and seeing two watches in my winding box is way more satisfying than having that Daytona alone.

The reason im writing this post is that, I want people who are struggling about the same thing, trading-in their old watches, to think twice. Do not make impulsive decision and treat your old friends nicely. NGL, I missed my old GMT till this vey moment, for me, it is a watch full with memories, and I regret trading it. If you can, save up for the new one! There is always gonna be a new grail piece for you, but all the new ones look the same. What only belongs to you uniquely is the one that carries your memories aka. scratches.

I can’t relate. I own 75 watches, though only 2 are Rolexes. Glad you got a Sub, though. Still my favorite….

Congratulations, a great pair!!! For what it's worth, I've really only regretted one trade which was an OP36 for a 114060 (I already had a 14060). I ended up trading away the 114060 and missed the OP.

Congratulations on the new sub. You could always buy another BLNR. Now if it was a significant watch i.e. an heirloom or other significant piece that would be a problem!

The next one you need is Rootbeer to add some color in your collection.

To Kat (KatGirl): Wow, 75 watches, I would love to see your collection.

Thanks for sharing your experience. You'll inevitably build great memories with your new pair. Live and learn as we all make rash emotional decisions with this silly hobby from time to time.

I’m on my 3rd Daytona.
Only my vintage one from 1983 was a daily wear.
Just can’t warm up to the new models and worry about wearing a $25K watch.
Thinking about flipping the Daytona for a couple of sport models.

Congrats on your duo.
I haven’t felt your pain quite as much, but I did sell my 16613 bluesy years ago to acquire an AP 25594.
I regretted giving up the bluesy and later acquired another one.
But both are proudly in the family today and there are no plans to put them up for adoption anytime soon.

A BLNR and OP blue dial for a Daytona is a fair trade for you in my opinion

It appears you've made the wrong decision since you're scared to scratch it and you'll get sick of it by wearing it too much. JUST WEAR IT. You'll get one scratch after another and eventually you'll forget about the scratches from actually enjoy wearing it

We learn more from our mistakes than our successes. But you've ended up in a good place, if a different one. Congratulations.

I don't like it, too much black, bezel, dial, no way. Then, the ceramic a restyling of 116520.

Congratulations on the Submariner.

I can’t remember… did you try on the Daytona before deciding you were going to trade the OP and the BLNR?

Regardless, I agree with you …

1. It’s always better to add first, consolidate later.
2. There is no such thing as a grail watch.

Even better to add first, tell yourself you’ll then consolidate, break promise to yourself and keep all

So true, I noticed that happens alot

Worse yet is this:

Add, consolidate, and buy the exact same watch back after you decided to consolidate

Nice watches. Regret is something that can be human nature but you made a decision and got a great watch in return for your trades. Be good with that and enjoy what you have. Scratches come and go as does the fear of damaging a watch. That well worn but taken care of look is always one of my favorites. Don't over think it, just enjoy what you have. Congratulations.

They look great together, your rotation is starting to resemble mine (all black dials). Definitely add a CHNR or colorful GMT to the pair at some point. That’s my intention too if I ever get the call.
