Tudor Ranger 39
Appreciating this reference a lot more today. As a former Exp39 owner I cant see why these aren’t popping up regularly.
Where are they on the forum? Pics!! Pics!!! |

Not sure I'm sold on the retro-looking lume, but I haven't seen one in the metal yet.

I think i noticed a deck hand on one of my yachts wearing one. I don't typically get excited about watches those people wear.

Nice looking watch when it came out. When I finally got to see one in the metal and try it on, I was underwhelmed. For some reason I wasn't feeling it. Nice vintage style dial, cool "bubble" crystal and the size is perfect for someone like me with a smaller wrist. I still didn't warm up to it though.
I am wanting to go for a BB Pro, but will see how I like it when I finally get to try one on. |

I have one. Got to wear it a for a bit and had to send it in. Been three weeks and I have heard nothing back from the AD. Lots of problems with these.. It is a shame because it’s my favorite in my collection. I would wear this more often than my BB GMT or my 114060. I have tried on a BB Pro. While it is a nice watch, this ranger is much thinner. The BB Pro is too think for a 39mm IMO.

To me they look better in pics than in the window displays I've seen, while the 41mm Heritage Ranger looks better in real life than in pics. I also feel more at ease with the ETA movement of the 41mm. Mine is still keeping chronometer time after 8 years.

My AD has these and to be honest, these feel like a cheap Timex with painted dials. Nothing modern about these at all. Explorer looks and feels like a Rolex.
The TR feels like something Timex would make ..to each his own, I guess. |

I bought one two weeks ago, I think its fantastic. Extremely comfortable on thevwrist, 39mm is spot-on for this piece.

I tried one on at AD in New Orleans- it is nice, but I agree it is priced a little high, and it did not have the "feel" of being a Tudor. The AD said no discounts being offered currently, but he could see about throwing in NATO strap... Whoopee!

Sweet watch.
Got to try on both the bracelet and strap versions recently at my AD, and I have to say, I was blown away. Would've bought it on the spot, but, well, let's just say the collection has gotten a little out of hand lately. It's not out of the running, yet, though. |

I like it. Suspect it may wear large on the wrist but would like to see it in person, and also determine how the faux patina looks on the lume. I wish everyone would stop doing that.

to be honest, i don't think this "faux patina" that everyone refers to, is all that noticeable, if at all.

I've seen it done well, and seen it done less-well (where it looks overly yellow). Probably up to the eye of the beholder if it's a positive or a negative.

This is odd one for me. When I first saw it in pictures I thought it was pretty dull. Then it started to grow on me to the point I was excited to see it, but when I saw it in an AD window I thought it was nothing special again. But then I got to try it on at a Tudor event and on the wrist I loved it!
I think the concerns over fauxtina lume are a bit overblown. I’m not a fan of fauxtina, but on the Ranger it just looks like green lume. I’d slightly more prefer it if it had applied markers, but again, it was still just a pleasant surprise on the wrist.

I wear mine all the time as my beater watch, I really like it a lot as it's has a lot of similar qualities to my Exp214270. My AD just let me know that the additional straps I ordered just came in, so I'm going tomorrow to try it out on those instead of the bracelet and see how I like that.
No issues with mine at all so far, so I'm pretty happy with it. |

Yeah, I don't even consider off-white or creamy lume as "faux patina". Plenty of watches had tritium dials that were off-white from new, as can be seen from old catalogs where watches side by side have different shades of lume. People seem to think that all dials started off bright white (like luminova) but they didn't. Re-creating lume/dial colour as it could have appeared from new is fine by me, and I think it looks much better than the ubiquitous sterile white.

The Ranger in online release blurb didn't do anything for me. However, when I saw it in the flesh, the comfort on wrist and the small details make a great watch.
39mm sounded small but on the wrist it wears more like a 40. The slimness of the case also makes it so easy to wear. It reminds me so much of a Datejust from the early 2000's. If you want a Rolex then this isn't even a stop gap. This watch is a quality watch, flies under the radar with great comfort but bling it ain't. Like another poster said, this would be killer with an applied dial, however, this would mean sales taken away from the Rolex OP and therefore would never happen. I can't fathom how people can say this is overpriced. This 'is' the value purchase. In house movement at this price, no other manufacture comes close.
