Stain or marks on Superocean case steel??

I noticed a couple marks on the case (crown side) of my SO42. It is not even 2 years old and has only seen about a year of daily wrist wear. I tried cleaning (diluted Dawn and water solution) and wiping down / rubbing with a cloth. No luck removing. Any ideas what this might be? There are actually a few of these spots on the side of the case and pretty obvious when looking with the naked eye from the side.

Just came across this thread today. It's hard to tell from the photos but dang if it doesn't look like the protective film is still on the lug to me.

The entire lug from the crown towards the 12:00 side is dull compared to the section from the crown to 6:00 side. The "stain" looks more like air pockets to me. Breitling stickers the (you know what) of their watches.

Take it to the AD and they will take a look. It is very hard to read anything from this photo but your local watchmaker in AD should fix this without any problem. For me you will need a polishing of the case but its very hard to see it on this photos.

Just a thought. I had one on one of my SO's for months before I realized what it was. It was a bear to get off without a scratch!.

Any chance it could have been exposed to an acidic solution? I know in metallurgy, acids such as nitric acid will preferentially etch metal grains. That would be a huge grain, but maybe? Let us know what the AD says.

Read about nital solutions. It’s basically nitric acid in ethanol.

Take it to the AD they will surely have a solution, some light polish should do the magic.

Curious what happened with this OP? It really does look like the stickers are on from the photos, but I'll take your word for it. Did you get it sorted?

They were stickers, OP is too embarrassed to come back to this post, they still post a lot in the forums.
