Help me rate authenticity of Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Explorer 2

I would like to know if this Rolex is legit
My grandpa bought him a 10 years ago or maybe even more and gave me saying he needs a new owner and he is too old to wearing this Rolex
He said this Rolex is original and was bought for lot of money but i want to make sure is he telling me the truth

Based upon history of grandfather's watches, I'd rate the probability of authenticity at pretty close to 0.

But, for a more educated opinion, you might post some pictures.

1) "Too old" to wear.
2) paid "a lot" for it.

Sounds like a fake to me.

I’d say legitimate. He sounds like an honest man.

tell us all about your grandpa......did he scale everest or any of the other 8000 m peaks while donning a rolex? did he venture into the abyss while having a rolex on? did he break the sound barrier while piloting an experimental jet (again- with a rolex on?)
