To all the Rolex fans: Why do you love Rolex timepiece?
I know Rolex are popular, I am curious as to why people like it so much, is it the hype around it? I figured the best place to ask is in the Rolex forums. Why do you guys love Rolex?

Finely crafted, elegant, high-quality timepieces that offer robust and reliable movements. They have been perfected over the years with impeccable attention to detail and offering the absolute best proportions and wearing experience for any and all circumstances. The design language is timeless, the catalog is thoughtful, the product line has evolved over the years to near perfection. They are truly aspirational, inspirational, and have become synonymous with success and achievement, or symbolizing things or moments of great significance. Often imitated, never duplicated. There is only one Crown.

I actually love Rolex despite the hype. The first time I tried one on last year -- an Air King display piece -- I was enamoured. Same with the Explorer I, Sub and OP. The details were flawless. The feel of it on my wrist, the silky smooth texture of the bracelet. No watch ever compared to these.
I love my Longines, my Hamilton, and other watches I've owned over the years, but they just don't compare. I wish I could transfer some of this love to Tudor, but they haven't been the same. The first time I tried on a BB58, I found it awkward and turning the crown was a nightmare! I was tempted by a GS White Birch. It was amazing and I am simply fascinated by the spring drive.... but it wasn't quite the same. So my hobby is price-watching, waiting for a call for an Explorer or finding a decent deal here or chrono24 for an older model... sigh. |

Because my dad wears one and I've seen it do everything.
Aside from his own skin, nothing he wore in 1986 is still around. Sent from my NE2215 using Tapatalk |

I'm a child of the 80s and watched a LOT of 80's TV and I think it started there as in the era of the classic yuppie Rolex got mentioned in a lot of shows and I was young and impressionable. I was also very interested in watches and timekeeping and got an Automatic Seiko for Christmas in 1987 when mechanical watches (especially inexpensive ones) were hard to find. Everything kind of progressed from there.
Ultimately, I like a robust watch mechanical on a bracelet with a screw down crown and good water resistance and that describes 95% of what Rolex makes. Dress watches are just too fragile for me. Also, as Rolex design changes are very evolutionary, there's a definite timelessness (sorry about the pun) to their design language which I love too. A Sub is a Sub is a Sub, and instantly recognizable as such. |

To me Rolex is rugged and functional. It's amazing technology in a portable wearable device - no batteries required.
I appreciate pretty much all mechanical watches but particularity Rolex. When I was growing up and watching ultra cool and masculine role models wearing the brand cemented the name in my head making it a goal to achieve -in other words it represents success. I am a retired adult now and I still feel the same about the brand. I wear and prefer it for all those reasons.

Ergonomic. Well engineered. Keeps good time. Takes a beating. When serviced appropriately is made to last. And I don’t mind how it looks. 114060 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wearing comfort, legibility/ease of use, design and build quality, in a price range that I am happy to pay. I have a number of brands comprising a number of watches at a number of price levels. Some of the cheaper ones can match Rolex for finish and presentation but none wear so comfortably, apart from one.

I like the looks, fit, wear and dependability of the watches. To me, while I like a lot of other brands, Rolex does wear the Crown.
