Watch Consolidation?

For those who have a watch collection, would you sell some your watches to obtain your present grail, saying that you haven't done so yet? I'm itching to sell some in my collection to obtain the day-date II in platinum with the glacier blue dial. I can't seem to get that watch out of my mine I have to say there are reasons for me to rethink this plus it would require additional funds to aquire it:
- Sea-Dweller (high probability that they will not make this model any more)
- TT GMTc (pre-owned model has depreciated greatly)
- TT Date-just solid jubilee bracelet with fluted bezel (pre-owned model has depreciated greatly)

Maybe it is more fun to save up and retain the rest to wear a different day of the week. Your thoughts?

what it boils down to is: how much wrist time will your other watches get once you have the dd2?

Would have to be a pretty special grail, I have a few dream watches but I also appreciate wearing different pieces based on my mood or their utility

Depends how many watches you have. IMHO, I would rather have 2 to 3 really great watches than 10 just nice ones.

Personally if it was me I would trade all of those in a heartbeat for that beauty!
All of the watches you have mentioned can be replaced at a later stage including the seadweller, after all it has only just gone out of production and there must have been hundreds of thousands made over the years.

I think the watch you are wanting is one of the best looking watches period. Go for it, I think as soon as it is strapped to your wrist all doubt will fade away!

Yea, that was my gut feeling. My current collection:

- 18kt Gold GMTc
- Two-tone GMTc
- Black face Daytona with rolex rolex rehault
- Sea-Dweller (z-series)
- Date-just TT solid jubilee bracelet with sun beam/sun burst dial (z-series)
- Panerai GMT 88
- Cartier Roadster Chrono Extra Large

Lately I have been thinking about trading my watches for an SS Daytona and having that be my daily wearer. However, I think that after the initial "newness" and excitement wore off, I would miss the variety that my current collection provides. Doesn't stop me from thinking about it though....been doing it more and more lately.

This is a toughie, and one I've thought about too. I don't need too much variety, but I'm not sure that I could wear just one model forever either. That plat DD is gorgeous though!

My watches are like my dogs. When they look me in the eye with that sad mournful look, I just know I can never part with them.

Right now I'm seeing a new day-date II in platinum being offered for $33,000 to $35,000 in the grey market. How much would this watch be worth pre-owned in a few years? It's hard to say but I don't think it would tanked pass $25,000 even in this market but I could be wrong.

I see the very well respected member has a stunning deal on a new in box with unsigned papers model you want. If I was in the states and in the market for this watch this would be the way I go! (I am not in any way connected with tempoking)

Two tone GMTc, datejust, and sea-dweller would have to go. Would let go of the Cartier Roadster but I don't think I will get much for it so I might as well keep it.

Prefer to deal with grey dealers here but also seen it on ebay from supposedly a reputable dealer for almost $1000 less and no paypal or shipping fees. Plus I'm struggling to adjust to such a huge price tag although a great deal compared to msrp.

I did just that Emagni. The YG DD was my grail and I decided to part with both of my DJ's. I sold one and bought the DD about a year ago, thinking I might want the other DJ as a rotation. I have worn the DD ever since and haven't been tempted to switch with the DJ. Therefore, the other DJ will be up for sale soon.

Yeah, but Platinum has such a nice ring to it. And that blue is ONLY offered in PLATINUM.
When someone looks at that watch, they know its Platinum and not SS or WG.

I've seen people switch out for the glacier dial on the 36mm white gold DD. Those funny Posers lol.

I don't understand that. Why didn't they just get the Platinum in the first place? I don't know, I guess its all in what you like. Maybe they have a thing for WG but still love the color of the ice blue dial. But I think thats why Rolex only offers it in Platinum so it can make a statement. I like the light blue sub but its only offered in WG. I would love to have one in SS but thats just like the guy with the WG DD changing the dial to ice blue.

It's a beautiful dial right? I'm sure the price that comes with the platinum DD is out of reach for most of us.
