Datejust II or Milgauss?

I was planning to buy a Milgauss 116400 GV with blue dial, still tempted but saw in Watchfinder today a Datejust II 116344 with azzuro blue dial and might be changing my mind!
Both are 2016 models, box and papers and the same price.
I’m not interested in the DJ41, I’ve owned one in the past and actually prefer the beefier and big bezel look plus had too many issues with the 32 series movements so won’t make that mistake again.
Milgauss blue or DJII blue? Which would you take and why ?

Milgauss!

…because it’s quirky and different :) - plus, you said the DJ doesn’t interest you and you dislike the 32XX movements.

Milgauss. I don’t care much for the DJII. Much more original and unique style as well

I do like the Milgauss but prefer the fluted white gold bezel of the DJII, looks a little like a blue SkyD for under half the price!

Datejust II or Milgauss?

Both awesome watches. I owned several DJII references. I would pick the Zblue. A picture below of my MG which I bought a couple of months ago BNIB

I own and love a DJII, never had a Milgauss.

I think they are very different the fluted bezel is a bit bolder vs domed.

No right or wrong answer I think there both great.

I voted with my wallet and my vote goes DJII as its a jack of more trades with the date function and ability to dress up and down.

If I wanted a date complication I would take the DJ. If complications didn't matter I would grab the Z Blue with both hands.

Milgauss every day. The proportions of the DJ2 are way off to me

DJII for me as I own one. I much prefer it to the DJ41 as I like the fact it's slightly bigger and bolder, with larger hour markers, and therefore is a little more sporty. Plus I also much prefer the 31xx series of movements.

I've never owned a Milgauss as the only colourway I ever liked on that model is the older one with the black dial, all white markers (none of the orange markers at 2, 6 and 9) and normal clear sapphire. All the other colourways are a bit too mismatched for my liking.

Just for info, the DJII the OP is looking at (as opposed to the DJ41) runs the 3135.

I’d go Millie. Only because a DJ larger than 36mm is not a DJ.

Unpopular opinion. I prefer the date (maybe cos I'm getting old and grumpy). Plus that cyclops is Rolex's trademark. If milly had a date feature, I'd be all over it.

Both watches have similar case design but different proportions. The DJII is true 41 mm the Milgauss is reported to be 40 mm but the lug to lug on the DJII is larger and it has more wrist presence. The movement in both should run in the + 2 second range. The bracelets are the same and the DJ just slightly thinner. If you like the fluted bezel and that's the bezel on offer here then take the DJII, especially if you like a watch with more presence on the wrist. I believe the reference is 116334 not 116344.

I vote for the DJ2. I always felt that the DJ41 had better dial proportions than the DJ2, but I tried one on this weekend and it just felt small to me compared to the DJ2. Between the two, I choose the DJ2. I’ll take the wrist presence over a more proportional dial

I owned the exact DJ2 your referring to. And I agree 100%. The lug to lug is something to seriously consider on the DJ2. It's out there and would recommend a 7.5 flat wrist to pull it off well. But it is one heck of a stunning watch in blue. New 41 DJ'S are a very nice and comfortable watch. And yes. The reference is 116334.

Many thanks for all the replies.
I’m still torn as Milgauss seems more popular and I love the dial/crystal colours however can’t get away from the plain bezel when I much prefer white fluted gold, it adds luxury as opposed to stainless steel.
One point in the size is I was planning to buy a SkyD which obviously is bigger all round than the DJII and then realised I’ll never use the second time zone and I can save myself 60% on the purchase price, I’m not a wealthy man so that’s a major plus.
I seem to be talking myself in to the DJII now!

Milgauss for me. For you, I guess DJI.

Milgauss is strange in the bling department: from one angle is completely under the radar, from another is drawing everybody’s attention. On internet we always see it in macro shots and we can appreciate the blue dial (talking about z blue, obviously), but in real life has that dual personality I really enjoy. Fluted DJ is what it is, great shiny watch which always is saying the same thing.

Milgauss Z Blue.... I know it's not been the most popular model in years past but it feels special when I wear mine (was my first from my AD too). It's unique, fun, wears really well and will always make you smile.
