Confusion over Date Discrepancy at RSC.
I recently purchased an Explorer from the secondary market and brought it to RSC while picking up my wife's newly serviced Datejust. I asked the watchmaker to take a look at it since the winding sounded gritty, and he eventually came out with the watch, informing me that it did not need servicing as it kept good time and the winding sounded good. However, I was confused when he said that the watch was from July 17, 2017, as my warranty card dated the watch to February 17, 2018. When I brought this to his attention, he simply responded, "This is the date that is showing on my records." Can anyone explain what could be going on?
Thanks |

Maybe the card had been altered? Or maybe just a error when it was originally swiped.

with older purchases (pre super hype), it was not unusual to have blank warranty cards aka no date/name on them. Its possible someone bought the watch and the warranty card was not filled in and when they resold it they filled in the date on the card itself. i bet if you call the store it was bought from, they may have the 2017 date as well. it doesnt mean it was intentional to deceive, it couldve been the second buyer preferred that date for whatever reason, or may have purchased it from a grey dealer with the same understanding as you (that it was a new watch from that date).
this is just one version of what likely happened. |

Sounds like the AD that originally supplied the watch swiped the card in 2017 and left it blank and the secondary market reseller dated the card with a later date.
I remember talking with the manager at my local AD when he swiped the warranty card into the iPhone that Rolex provided and as I recall not only does it record the warranty date, but it also lets Rolex know that they sold the watch so it can also be used to manage inventory turnover and could be used to trigger a replacement in the next shipment. |

I’m more surprised that they can actually give you a date! Every time I’ve called to ask about a date they tell me they don’t give out that information.
I guess they do if I go into an RSC in person? |
