The Great Pepsi Debate

What is the general consensus on the 16710 Pepsi vs a modern 126710 on Jubilee? Don't think they both make sense in a collection but just curious to get other people's opinions.

I actually think they can coexist. They are very different watches close up. Me, I am biased and pick the 5 digit for the ability to have 6 watches in 1, but I’d for sure have a 6 digit too.

It's very subjective...if I was going to buy a Pepsi it'd be an aluminum bezel model for sure.

I've had the 16710 for 12 years and just picked up the BLNR a couple weeks back.

If I HAD to pick one, it would be the 16710. Just as robust but I'd say a bit sportier than the new models, which are more like jewelry to me (especially with the jubilee bracelet, which my BLNR is on). While you can beat up the new models just as well, I'd say the 5-digits feel more ready for the job in that regard.

The old 5-digits have a more rugged look and feel to them, in my opinion. The shine on the ceramic bezel probably has something to do with it.

Edit: Forgot the mention that I've had the Hulk for 6 years and that my answer still remains the 16710.

If you really love the GMT, as I do, then I think it makes sense to have both the previous, more traditional version, and the current ceramic one. They are dramatically different watches.

I have both, and while I enjoy having the new six digit version, I very rarely wear it. I’m always going for my 5-digit 16750. The ratio in which I wear the two is probably 50:1.

I like how it’s so comfortable it disappears on my wrist, it is an attractive watch but doesn’t look like it’s screaming for attention, and mine is banged up enough that I can do any number of recreational or work activities and not take it off. It’s a true daily companion you can wear every day, doing anything.

The red and blue is also infinitely better on the aluminum bezels than the deep purple and deep pink of the ceramic. I was immediately underwhelmed by the colors of the ceramic insert; I’m still disappointed by them.

My ceramic Pepsi is a spectacular watch, and one of the “must haves“ in my collection, I but it’s just too pretty for me to wear in most situations, attracts attention (the wrong kind) and doesn’t seem durable even though it probably is.

I like my BLRO but it’s my safe queen, whereas my 5-digit does everything with me. I love that watch.

I'm a big 16710 fan, personally. It has easily changeable bezel inserts, bulletproof 3185 or 3186 caliber movement, and to me the 16710 case is much more attractive than the maxi case on the 126710. Just my $.02.

I'd go modern personally between those two. That being said, if I was getting a GMT it would be a 1675. Personal grail of mine for years.

Love the 4 (1675) and 5 digit (16700) GMT.

Aluminum bezel, more heart, not jewellery.

YMMV

I've said before on here that for a BLRO I'd chose a 5 digit 16710 every time over a 126710BLRO. The 16710 got the bezel colours right in a way the 126710 could only dream of.

For a 6 digit I prefer the BLNR as it's an original colourway for the 6 digit, and those colours are perfectly done.

I dont own either, but I've had the chance to handle both at the same time and I came away impressed with the modern reference. Not that the aluminum bezel doesn't have it's Pros, but i think coming in with fresh eyes and seeing both for the first time at the same time, I'd take home the modern reference.

Ceramic Pepsi insert looks like plastic to me.

I think there is the argument for any 5 and 6 digits pairs in a collection. The 5 digits have a "vintage" look when compared to the bulky and shiny 6 digit references.

It’s like asking if a 1993 Corvette can exist with a 2023 Corvette. The answer is yes for both but you don’t need the mustache for the GMT’s.

The five digit feels very different to me on the wrist. Bracelet less substantial and so on. If I was to have two, I'd get a five digit with the full series of swappable bezels to mix it up.

The older models have a different charm. A bit smaller, a bit lighter and with the great addition of being able to do bezel swaps. Makes them very versatile. If you like a more solid piece, go 6-digit. Both together could work.

I’d take a 16750 or 16710 before the modern reference. The case and charm mean more to me than the bling. I suppose having both is an option but it would depend on your collection.

I own a 16750 for reference.

I started liking the 16710 a lot more when I swapped the Oyster for a Super Jubilee (for a change of pace -- I have Oysters on other models).
