Rolex Approach to GMT Releases

Something I think is interesting is how much Rolex tweaks the GMT line offerings vs their other professional models. At least in the ceramic bezel era. Here we are again in 2023 with another GMT release...

For example, the Submariner line is pretty stable, usually when the sub gets a facelift, the entire line is updated at or around the same time and it runs for about a decade. GMT though, seems like references are released and discontinued on an annual basis...

I am not saying its good or bad. Just an observation and wondering if anyone has a thought as to why?

To keep thing fresh I would say, most people can’t buy them so at least there’s something to look at?

Maybe they're just trying to get those red and blue bezels finally right!

(kinda!)

I have a soft spot for the sub and have one as my daily (LVc). Maybe I am just jealous of GMT fans. Seems like they get at least one shiny new toy to look at every year lol.

By the way, we all agreed on a yellow gold GMT master 2, red letterings, red got hand... but if it was actually a yellow gold Coke GMT? ehehehe

The GMT update roadmap has been a little weird. I would have thought the pseudo-41mm case from the Sub would already have become the standard GMT case by now. (It's not hugely different but it is certainly more streamlined)

Would be nice but very unlikely regarding the "10" on the bezel which would be on day/red section

The new teaser Rolex just published today alludes to an imminent GMT release on Monday. Give it a look.

I’d like to see something like the old Cellini dial on the root beer — the black dial doesn’t cut it for the watch imho.

With Cellini, Rolex needs to offer options. Different metals and dial colors. Different complications. They need to up the movement finishing game and offer display backs on all their watches in that line. Think the different variations of the Calatrava.

I feel that Rolex should use Cellini to have carte blanche on their creativity, something they feel they cannot risk with their main line of sports watches. Lord knows they have the money to experiment.

Otherwise, why bother having this line?

I just looked at the teaser on the front page of their site, what does "defying excellence" mean?

Defining excellence maybe but defying ?????

I think that next to Daytona, the GMT Master gives them one of the biggest opportunities to create low cost buzz. It's very iconic and small tweaks in the bezel give them brand new product lines in many owners view.
