The 39mm Explorer...
I've had my Explorer now for about two and a half years...
During that period it's gotten more wrist time than all of my other watches combined... As far as I'm concerned it doesn't get any better than this... |

Great watch in a great photo with a great Montblanc. I was just about to order a 39mm Explorer, but I had a premonition that the Milgauss Z Blue was on the way out and ordered it on Friday last week. The rest is history. Just got it yesterday.
But that 39 is next up, for sure. I love the word "Explorer" on the bottom text group instead of the top as seen in the 36 and 40 variants. Sent from my NE2215 using Tapatalk |

This is the perfect explorer IMO. I like how they placed the word 'Explorer' at the bottom. Balances out well.

Absolutely stunning piece, I am hoping to see real life comparisons of this versus the 40mm.

The 39mm Explorer...
Had it briefly but disliked the proportions of the dial and the bezel (prefer the 36 MM versions). Many do like it

The 39 doesn’t look right. The 36 looks right.

I’m sure the new 40mm will be a beauty, here’s my Mark I, one of the most thoughtlessly conceived, poorly designed watches Rolex has ever rolled out! And I’ll never get rid of mine.

So much regarding the 39 depends on wrist circumference. Did you take out any links from standard? No? Then it’s probably a good fit.

The most compelling feature of the newly released 40mm Explorer will be the 70 hour power reserve. "It's a good thing" as Martha would say (as long as all other things remain the same) ...

Even after all these years, I just don't see it. Never have and never will.

I too prefer the word "Explorer" at the bottom of the dial.
It's more in line with the rest of the professional line!! And yes, I love how mine wears. .nic |

I never felt like my 39mm Explorer had a black dial - it was more like a matte grey and was a bit lifeless, compared with the rich, glossy black dial on the 124270. I understand the new 40mm variant has the latter.

In my opinion the 39mm MKII is perfection. Wear it daily. I wouldn’t change a thing.
I won’t be “upgrading.” |

I like my 39 a lot and wear it often. The size is good for me but if I could change one thing, it would be to make the lugs thinner.

I love my mark 2 214270.
To me, the matte dial is outstanding and makes it more legible. The only other modern Rolex with that matte dial is the SD4k 116600 from 2014. Also, the case is the same as the 116520/116500 Daytona minus the pushers. And you get a fill brushed bracelet with an easy link and fold over clasp. It really couldn’t be a more perfect watch. |

My 39 gets a lot of wrist time, for I find it to be one of my most comfortable watches to wear all day.

The 39mm is perfect and has the most correct proportions. In my opinion, this is the absolute perfect sport watch.

I’m a fan of the 39mm ex1 but I must admit that I’m intrigued in seeing the new 40mm in closer detail.

Well, I voted with my pocketbook. I like the matte dial because it sets it apart from the rest of the professional line with their glossy black dials. It's also a nod to the 1016, which I appreciate. And the 214270 is the ONLY recent production Explorer with a 20mm bracelet. People are always going to nitpick things, but as a whole - it's the best modern Explorer IMO.

Had high interest in the 36 until i tried it on. In person it was just too dainty looking and i remember wishing it was larger. Curious to see the new 40 in person. Assuming it’s size is comparable to the Air King
