I like the cut out dial on the 210, but really like the dial on the 98.
I tried some lume shots, but was too blurry. Will try some later of the whole family

It's funny but I was just looking at the Panerai alarm yesterday. Quick question: is the alarm loud (perhaps like the Cricket, a sort of buzz sound) or more like a softly tinging bell (like the JLC Master Reveil)? Also would be interested in your general comments on the watch if you care to offer them. Thanks in advance.

The alarm function has a separate power reserve.
The rotor keeps the main power & alarm power topped up. It is unidirectional, but one direction is for alarm, the other direction for the watch.

The sound is not really loud. Not at all like a manual alarm clock. My wife says it sounds like a really loud mosquito. Definitely loud enough to wake you. (if on wrist or on nightstand) . The alarm lasts about 8 -11 seconds.
The crown at the 2, operates the date, hour/minute hands, winding the watch and the GMT time.
The crown at 4, winds the alarm, pull once to adjust the alarm setting & stay in this position to set the alarm. To shut it off, just push back in.

Being that the movement is a Girard-Perregaux, it is very quiet, unlike the other Pannies.
It does have the "haking" feature, so I have set the time/seconds exactly to the world clock. It has only been about 6 hours, so too soon to test accuracy. ( Plus I just play with it for the first 30 days, break it in, then test it)

The strap is the OEM Gator with a depolyant buckle ( thumbnail in size).

As for comfort, AMAZING.
The second I put it on, I commented how this deployant system was more comfortable than the one on the 104.
I have it sized to the 4th hole in the strap. It fits nicely on my wrist, perfectly centred top & bottom.
I would say, it is the most comfortable watch I own

For me, a watch must be easy to read, ( as I have poor eyes to start with)

This is easy to read, day or night ( just like other Pannies). Even though the dial has plenty of markings for seconds, hour markers around outer ring, the GMT time, I find it extremely easy to read.
Another huge plus for me is the second hand and alarm hand. ( The alarm hand is the one with the arrow-head) Both are very slender & do not interfer with the hour/minute hands on a quick look, YET both are easy to see when you look for them.

One thing that is taking a bit of getting used to is opening the deployant buckle.
On the system that came with the 104, there are two buttons on either side you press to release the catch. On the 98, you simply tug on the buckle.

I haven't removed the second keeper yet. This one seems to fit over the last bit of strap just right

So far, am exremely pleased with this.

One last thing, the crown at 2, is stylized with the OP logo, the Crown at 4 has a small bell. I tried to photo this, but my lighting was not right to capture this.

How is that for a 24 hour wear & evaluation

Thanks for the thorough review. One reason I happened to look at the Panerai yesterday happens to be because I have weak eyes and thought the Panerai face might be easier to read than some, so I am glad you mentioned this. Just awesome John!! I am really happy for ya pal. 98 is just beautiful plus you gotta love the GP movement and the 210 still has the best dial on any modern PAM, IMHO.
