Icon5 ?1977 Rolex?

I am hoping someone can help and tell me something about my watch. My mother bought it for my father i think around 1977 or 1978. After he was killed in a motorcycle accident. It was given to me, and i have had it in my little jewelry box since i was a little girl :-)

We'd love to help you. Can you post some high-definition photos of the watch?

I would love this to be real.

Hard to tell from the photo, but certainly looks promising if the story is to be believed. What a time capsule if so

Hello - It's (on first impression) an early 6265 Sigma Gold hour indices and no Red Daytona printed on dial...with original pushers. If it's all legit it's a quite valuable piece.

Some high quality photos of dial essential to establish much else at this point

I'd take it to a specialist Vintage Rolex expert to get it checked over.

That is definitely something special and quite valuable. Looking forward to seeing more pics. Very sorry to hear how it came to be in your possession but on another note, your dad had great taste.

You are in the right place to find out what to do with this watch. Do not do anything with it until the experts here have provided some advice as they are more knowledgeable than any jeweler, Rolex authorized store or even a Rolex Service Center (RSC). This is not a watch that you want to have serviced by just anyone. If you were to sell it, you might just want to polish the plastic crystal and leave it as is. This is something for a private buyer or an auction. BTW, I am not one of the experts but some are already here. That is a beautiful watch!

Thank you Timelord2. How do i know who the experts are? Thats exactly why i hoped to find someone through here. Because everything i find online about it COSTS SO MUCH. I have a hard enough time supporting myself these days haha. I just have know idea if it is even worth the cost to have it serviced or finding out its value and selling.

Ignoring the low res aspects it’s pretty impressive to have this in a jeweller box for 40+ years and not know anything about it but to be able to take photos of it including ones with the bracelet off which revealed some strange numbers.

Is there a reason why you forgot to take photos with the case back off?

Pics

Well ive discovered trying to take pics without a glare seems to have proven impossible for me🤣 As well as i thought the dials were the knobs in the side. But after looking it up online. It looks like its referring to the faceplate. I took pics of both just in case.

I get the skepticism, as we’ve seen a million “my grandfather’s watch” posts, but removing a case back is a big ask for someone who knows nothing about watches and has never removed a case back before. Plus, she never claimed she would do that.

I dont know how to take the back off. Look i came on here fir advice. I have no idea what details are needed to help me. That is why everything ya'll have asked for i did and provided.
This was the only thing i have ever had a part of my father. As a little girl i was scared to death and never showed it to anyone because i did not want to lose it and someone take him from me again. I have never thought much about what kind of watch it was, only that its the one memory that i know he truly existed.
Because i remember seeing it everytime he would chase me around and i would grab his arms when he caught me. It wasnt until recently moving a friend helping me saw me looking at it while packing. Even now as an adult, my initial reaction was complete fear. Now i can laugh at the fact that my friend made fun if me by saying she just witnessed the "5 year old me". But she also brought it to my attention that i should find out more about it being that it is a rolex. She is also the one that told me i should ask on here first before just taking it to some watch dealer. So i am not on here trying to stir up any issues. I am just here hoping for some answers and advice from people who know. Rather than unknowingly allow someone to deceive me with false information. Thank you to those if you who have given me information about it.I appreciate everything i have learned about it. Even more the fact that in a time of my life i could use a little help. It would be really cool if after all this time...my father "comes to my rescue". But even if it comes to not be worth much, I am still glad to learn more about it.

if i am not wrong, the first digit (3) of the serial looks like type font "C" while the rest of the serial looks type font "A".

Ugh...getting my messages to post on here is very frustrating. I just now saw that some have to be approved by a moderator before they are visible. So i apologize now because i kept trying to rewrite and send again. This site is not very user friendly at all

Yes there is not a smudge. Can you tell me an easy way to make sure pictures taken are the correct size for here. It seems when i try try to resize the image it it causing some of them to not show clearly and/or distort them

Info.

If it is even worth the money to pay to have it appraised/serviced/or whatever is needed to sell. As well as i am just curious about details about it as to what kind of watch my father chose. Curious as to what about this watch could possibly be reasons why he chose it over others. Lastly, i dont want to take it to the wrong person and it be ruined and cant even sell it. because i didnt know for instance, that people sometimes try to remove the original insides.

From the OP, via PM. She was having trouble posting this for some reason:

“I am just asking for help and advice about what i should do. Please, this is truly my watch. What reason would i have to go through all this just for help. I dont think coming here for help was a good idea. I definitely dont understand why i now feel like im being "attacked" on a site i was once so excited to get to hear from people with legit advice.Sorry, im not trying to vent...just a little disappointed by the responses i have received.I am sending this to you as last ditch effort in hopes someone will actually help me.Ill send a video of my freaken watch to the right person to show it is real if needed.“

OP,

Most people on this forum are good characters but we have encountered some bad apples as well through time. As you can imagine, we are talking valuable watches and scams do happen, frankly too frequently.

I think you can rest everyone's assurances by simply:

1) taking a picture of the watch with your username HANDWRITTEN next to it on a piece of paper or putting the watch next to today or yesterday's newspaper

My other advice is, if the watch is legitimate, you may or may not get PMs from people on this board. BE VERY CAREFUL. There are just as many crooks trying to scam sellers as there are sellers trying to scam buyers.

Avoid meet ups, etc. Take your time, do some research and understand what you have. In my opinion, selling this to a vintage watch dealer may be the easiest and safest option. You won't get as much vs. private sale but you will avoid all the headache and potential scams.

Keep us posted - looking forward to seeing 1) above.
