whats at Barbados??

the wife and I will be spending a week in Barbados this mid September as a part of our honeymoon thingy.....

We got a good deal in terms of flights and accommodation (meal/entertainment all inclusive within their 3 resorts). We are also planning on hiring a car to go around the island during our stay.

Any other recommendations?

Now the important bit - i have no idea which watch I will be taking with me at this stage. Are there places for watch browsing and buying on the island and their airport? Is it worth buying watch there?

Thanks

The only thing I know about Barbados is Keef Richards owns a home there.
Have fun and congrats,

My family and parents are from that country. I know for a fact you can find expensive watches and Rolex but can not rememeber where or what the prices would be like vs back home. Last year my dad attended this event here at the horse race track in Toronto (was like a Barbados day) and came back with a magazine that had a Rolex advert from an AD down there. Lots of stuff to do, swimming, diving, renting sea doo's you name it. Anything you can do in a tropical place. Hope you all have fun there

don't bother with the beaches, unless you want pestering 24/7 by the locals trying to sell you junk... they won't take no for an answer and keep pestering you

the beaches are open to anybody, the hotels don't own any of the beaches so they can't stop the local peasants pestering you

My wife and I went with my parents last October.

There's a place called The Plantation which has a neat Bajan Roots and Culture show, and there's the Mount Gay Rum Distillery to check out.

Reefers and Wreckers is great for scuba diving, tons of wrecks on the West Coast (calmer waters, great diving).

well i have been over 20 times believe it or not and i was there just last year.

i recommend the restaurant called the cliff on the west coat as a must!! there are plenty of other things to see but you must hire a car as the island as a whole is very safe and the people are wonderful. where are you staying? ( if you dont mind me asking?)

I was there in February. If you go to the main shopping street in Bridgetown (forgotten what it is called) it is full of jewellers selling gold and diamonds, several of which also sell Rolex Watches. I looked at a few Ladies Datejust watches for my wife but they worked out at about the same price as back in England.

for sure, that was part of the plan - it has been a hektic past few months and we will be both busy until this trip, so it is time to relax and do nothing.

hope the weather will be decent

we will be staying at Almond Casuarina (have no idea what it looks like - apparently this is one of their 3 resorts, and we are able to dine and use all facilities within all 3 resorts), i'm pretty sure it is in south west island. we will def. hire a car to go around the island. i have been told to watch out for the yellow buses.....

yeah thats down in St lawrence Gap ( where most of the nightlife is) I think. they have blue and yellow buses, blue being gov't ones and yellow being private ones that run the same routes. But the yellow ones you must get on as it is great fun, music of the loudest sort, speeding etc its just a great laugh.

you will love it

cool, look forward to it. have always tried to catch local buses at every country. one of my "weirdest" experience was catching a bus in Dubai

Not sure about any tax free system, but with the Stirling exchange rate against the Barbados Dollar, as it was, it seemed to me there was not too big a saving to be had, so I passed (not to mention that what my wife really wanted was another large diamond ring!).

they will give you around 15% off the US MSRP, which includes sales Tax and maybe a slight discount too. I paid $6000- $6100 US dollars ( double it for barbados $) last June if thats of any help to you, but that was when i was getting 2 USD for 1 GBP. now its around 1.65USD for a £ or so.
