I almost gave up on Rolex : Third incoming in a month or so : BLRO

For years now, I haven’t even attempted to even try to join the "game" and tried other brands such as Omega and Cartier. My interest suddenly went back and a few months ago and began making rounds....

So I went to the mall to purchase a Ranger from a Tudor AD. Of course, I walked in the Rolex Boutique of which I have no history with. Prior to doing so, I pulled out the business card of the salesperson I met last month as I don’t remember his name. Trying to strategize of what to say if you know what I mean.

So I walked in and said Mr “last name”! “first name” good to see you. Of course, he had no idea who I was. Then casual conversation went on, allocation this, allocation that, what you have purchased before from us, etc…

So went on and mentioned a milestone…. being honest and just myself. He even asked me what pieces I currently have. I’m not going to disclose the Rolex Boutique’s name but the rep had me scan a QR code to register my interest. He game me tips like best to input a BLNR as I have better chances. Wife walked in while is on the phone, I believe the rep even tried to verify the milestone I mentioned.

Rep kept on going in and out of the back room, must have been three or four times while I was registering. Usually like any AD, closure comes in by now with “Please try again next time.” He finally walked out with an empty tray so it seemed. He discretely told me to uncover the flap, and put it back immediately and don’t let the folks behind me see it.

I was so shocked and was literally in tears!!!!!! I honestly think that they actually have stock in the back, saving it for their high roller clients.

Long story short, walked out with this with no purchase history at all…

Fell right into the Rolex "trap". Marketing geniuses with the illusion of exclusivity. With that, I'm off to pay my SA's mortgage

These stories are bonkers to me. Each AD has a different answer for sure but I’ve never gotten anything close to a we have a watch for you and I’ve been to 15 ADs across a bunch of different states.

Very happy for you OP! Your story is making me want to keep checking in.

Pepsi on oyster diminished my interest to less than 10% level.
I bet that’s why it was there.

Congrats anyway but I would pass if it were me

Why do you prefer the oyster more on this, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm sure if I had the jubilee, I would like to have the oyster.. and vice versa.

Good question .. personally I think the oyster is more suited to sports models. And I think the jubilee belongs on a datejust only. I have a sky dweller with jubilee and a skydweller with oyster and although I love the look of it with the fluted bezel and matching jubilee bracelet it just doesn’t sit well with me. And I don’t mind wear on watches etc, but I really can’t stand bracelet stretch, it really annoys me. It’s like watching the mileage go up on my car. 5 digit oyster bracelets used to do this a lot also, but I’ve yet to have a 6 digit Rolex show any sign of bracelet stretch, and I have one from 2010.

Makes total sense and thanks for sharing. Luckily I have a DJ41 on jubilee otherwise I may be craving for a Jubilee bracelet by now.

Weird how? someone’s preference being different from yours is considered weird? Or publicly expressing a seemingly different option is considered weird? Or preferring jubilee to oyster is considered weird?

It must be one of above, right?
So I can not have different opinion ? Or I cannot publicly express a different opinion? Or I have to love oyster?

I’m really puzzled by a bunch in the form sometime

Congrats fellow Californian! Getting a BLRO without purchase history in this state is like catching lightning in a bottle.

Totally agree. Another AD around the area had nothing to add to their showcase the last four weeks. Keep on trying is what they all say.

What a superb story and watch you've got, shows it is possible to get these wonderful time pieces without spending thousands on tosh you don't really want or need just to build 'relationship'.
I've spent nothing at my local AD, just had a passion for the brand, quite an amazing true life story, and viola - soon picking up VTNR ..

Thanks. True that. You just don’t know how fast I whipped out my credit card. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before, EVER.

FWIW, I too preferred this on Oyster until I read a random article where the author argued why the jubilee is better, and I was sold. The gist is this watch was developed for Pan Am pilots during an age when commercial pilots were semi-celebrities and people dressed nicely in general but especially to fly. The GMT was never envisioned as some rough and tumble tool watch like the Submariner, but a more elegant watch that still served as a tool for pilots in uniform.

So now I think the jubilee just fits this original "spirit" better.

FWIW if the Pepsi was my only watch and I was going to daily wear it, I'd prefer Oyster. But in a collection of 2 or more, jubilee has become my preference.
