Casquette 2.0 Saint Laurent

Interesting release:

https://www.girard-perregaux.com/row...e-saintlaurent

Essentially a blacked out version of Casquette 2.0, limited to 100 pieces.

I really liked the first one and was sad I missed out on it but not sure I understand the collab here.

$6,700 USC is way too much.

I too prefer the first 2.0 release as it’s closest to the original Casquette. However, I don’t dislike this latest one either; it’s a more stealthy look.

I don't know if I would like it, but if I want such a watch, I would rather buy an original vintage Bulova:

Get an original imho. The Hamilton PSR with dual screen is another cool piece imho.

Original vintage, or original re-edition? The latter was a limited edition and sold out immediately, so only available secondhand.

It's still "cheap", and there are a plenty out there for sale.

Original original

Also consider a vintage Spaceview.

Intriguing release, outragious price tag. Anyways, the last year's release was also insanely priced and was sold out in just a couple hours, so...

The Casquette is a reissue. I had a couple of them at one time. Believe they came in gold filled like the Bulova and the mat black like the current reissue.

More expensive than the Bulova, but much cheaper than the reissue.

With these kind of quirky/weird watches I upfront expect terrible residual value, so price & value retention don’t play a role in my decision making. Instead, I purely focus on whether the piece speaks to me. This one does, preorder placed

That’s a fair way to look at it. Glad you were able to order one. Please post pics and a mini-review when it comes in.

Essentially the collab was initiated by Saint Laurent. Their Rive Droite concept stores (LA & Paris) do very selective collaborations across art, music and luxury goods scene, driven directly by SL’s Creative Director, Anthony Vaccarello. The fact that they selected Casquette as their next “objet d'art” to collaborate on is pretty cool.

I appreciate the explanation.

I’m struggling to see the differences between the two 2.0 releases…..For the 2023 version, is it just a blacked out case back and buckle and the Saint Laurent engraving for €2,000 more?

glad it wasn't just me, I couldn't see any differences. had the first reissue but found myself just checking the time constantly for no reason using up the battery

As you say, a blacked out version of the first re-issue with different engraving on the back, and this time limited & numbered to 100 pcs.

Super easy, just unscrew the caseback. The Naked Watchmaker did a full decon of it:
