GMT 126710BLRO for a Daytona 116520?

Gents, as the title says, is this a fair trade for both parties? 2023 GMT 126710BLRO vs 2010 Daytona 116520 black dial? Thanks!

Seems fair. Traded a bluesy and regular black sub for 116520 black dial. Loving the daytona.

Short answer, yes, if the 116520 comes as a full set in pristine, unpolished condition. Also having the APH dial, rehaut, blue lume, and the modern clasp makes it more desirable.

With that said, I would NOT trade a new 2023 BLRO for a beat-up, over-polished, paperless 116520. Life of a non-ceramic Daytona are told by its bezel.

Black 116520 is really beautiful. Maybe someone can post a picture of theirs.

I would not do it. While I love Daytonas, I had the 116520 with a black dial and the bezel is a scratch magnet and the dial is hard to read which is why I no longer have it but now having it black and white ceramic. The Pepsi is a great reference. If it were the ceramic Daytona then I would easily do the trade.

Not for me, I love my BLRO very much and I like 116500LN a lot more than 116520.

I would not,

The Pepsi is a superior watch.

Gmt function
Date

However for $ value it's a fair trade

I wouldn’t. Prefer the BLRO by far in every aspect. Do what makes you happy though.

I would not do this trade. IMO the BLRO remains the most unique piece in the Rolex catalog. The BLRO is getting harder to obtain each passing day. As the preowned market for Daytonas continues to drop if you wait until late summer you might be better just picking one up and keeping your GMT.

If the Daytone is in a good shape it's reasonable (financial wise).

Whether to trade or not is not a rational consideration, but more an emotional one. It depends on your taste and which watch you like more.

I would not to the trade, because i like the BLRO more.

Thanks for the replies!

The story behind this is that I met a fellow lawyer and Rolex aficionado at a convention a few weeks ago. Every time we have a coffee break, all we talk about is Rolex instead of the topic on Climate Change lol... Anyways, we has a wide range of Rolex collection while I only have a Starbucks for now after letting go of my Smurf last year with the intention of completing my trifecta of a Daytona and a GMT II. We are both in the waitlist for the BLRO, but he won't be getting his watch soon while I am fortunate enough to be getting it by next month after my AD confirmed that I should have it by July. He was wearing his Daytona at that time and he let me wear it for the day. I fell in love with it. It's in great condition and sits perfectly on my wrist compared to my sub. When he mentioned that this particular Daytona is his least favorite watch and rarely gets any wrist time, I though of proposing a trade, but I'll wait until I have the BLRO in hand plus the fact that he is getting frustrated with the wait to get his BLRO. I am not a fan of the newer ceramic Daytonas. Tried them with my AD, didn't click so I did not put my name on the waitlist and went for the BLRO instead. The discontinued pre ceramics are more desirable in my opinion. As for the GMTII, I honestly prefer the all black bezel. I already made some inquiries in pre owned market and it's not hard to get and price is not that over inflated at all compared to the Daytonas.

I traded a Sub 41mm LV and Pepsi ceramic for white dial ceramic Daytona. Within two months, I traded the majority of my remaining collection to buy back my Pepsi to pair with the Daytona. Daytona is the better watch overall for me, but I missed the Pepsi. Add if you can, but if not, make sure you’ll be okay when you can’t pick up and wear the Pepsi whenever the itch strikes you.

That's the problem... the itch... I have previously owned 6 Rolexes, several Pams and Omegas as well but sold them all. I can't seem to get satisfied :)

I know exactly what you mean. I feel pretty good with my Pepsi and Daytona combo. I want a Sub again pretty badly, but I don’t feel the itch nearly as bad as I did when I just had the two and no Daytona.
I was getting slightly jaded in the Pepsi until I lost it. Then I wanted it just as much as I did when I was in the honeymoon phase.
If you like the Pepsi, I so highly suggest waiting until you can add instead of sell… unless you can get some phenomenal deal.

Good point! Since I have not seen the Pepsi in person, it's not fair to judge by saying I prefer the all black bezel insert (I actually used to own one, but sold in in 2014 to make room for the Smurf). Most likely I will wear the Pepsi for a bit then see how it goes :) Thx

I wouldn’t. Especially if it has the smaller early clasp. I had 2009 w the newer clasp w black dial. Switched it out for a new BLRO on Jubilee. I felt it was a little boring after a while. The modern BLRO just wears better and really pops.

For a white dial, maybe. Black dial.. no.

Just wait until you get that new BLRO in your hands, I bet it will be a keeper.

seems like a fair trade if the 116520 is in great condition with box and papers (as everyone has said before). Do keep in mind that you have to service it in short order if it has not yet been serviced since its last purchase vs a brand new watch (where the service interal is 10 years). So you may want him to cover the cost of service.

I have both and I like my daytona just a touch more than the BLRO. Best way is perhaps to go to a dealer who has both in stock and try them side by side.

I would not trade this. Much prefer the new Pepsi to old Daytona personally.
