Icon5 How Long Can I Expect To Wait For My First Rolex

And if I am open to either a new Datejust, Daytona, or Submariner, which one do you think I would get the quickest?

In general, the Datejust is easier to obtain than the Daytona or Submariner. But it will also depend on the specific configuration.

Which Datejust configuration are you most interested in?

As a first purchase the Daytona will be nigh on impossible, if not totally impossible.

Go and meet the most AD's that you can around your area, and aim for a Datejust if you really want one soon. If you get lucky, you may see one on their display cases for sale. Recently stumbled upon a DJ41 and OP at my local AD, grabbed them quick!

It depends, but for new buyer, Datejust 6-12 months, Sub 12-24 months, Daytona infinite.

If you are personable and make a good connection with your SA, most DJ's could be yours within 4 months and more desirable configurations (ie: blue/mint green dial) could be 6-12 months. Submariner 124060 guessing 12-24 months, and Daytona depends on reference but if you're talking SS, I would say never at an AD.

These are my personal guesses. Best thing is to make an appointment with an SA and just be friendly and respectful. Do not go in there acting entitled. The SA's I talk with regularly tell me that is the biggest turn off against a customer. Good luck!

I should think a DateJust would be the quickest to obtain from an AD. I think you can also get one just by asking. Whereas a Sub may take some convincing on your part you that are an "appropriate customer." A Daytona usually requires a significant purchase history or a large bundle deal with other non-Rolex merchandize.

Welcome to the forum.

As above:

DJ - possible with AD
Sub - join the line
Daytona - wet dream

Thanks for all the "welcomes" by the way......

Im not 100% up to speed on 31 vs 36 vs 41. My first plan is to go to an AD and try all three on to see what fits me best.

Probably a steel 36 or 41 since I cannot get all gold in the larger sizes.

Just a basic metal color on the face, not the palm leaf or blue blocks

No diamonds

Tough way to go. A lot of us have waited years for our watches.

I think Mr. Ben meant to get in your Time Machine and go back40+ years.

Pick up a new PLN exotic panda Daytona.

Keep all original packaging and receipt.

Then come back here to dangle it in front of any AD owner’s nose - you’ll have the pick of the next shipment pronto.

It would depend on your AD and likely the details of others seeking the same watch. The DJ is probably the most realistic to get, depending on the configuration, IMO. Depending on the AD, they may want you to make other purchases to get/be considered for a specific watch--whether or not that is something you are willing to do is your call, but I ultimately chose the route of just buying the watch outright from someone else.

I guess let me ask a side question.

Since when did it become normal that I have to "have a relationship" with an AD, or buy lots of other things, dress and act serious, and basically BEG to spend $10 to $15k?

Is this a supply-chain phenom? Or has it always been like this?

I had a dealer the other day tell me twice in convo that he would work as an advocate for me with the dealer. What?!??!

I just want to order a watch.

This is all new to me. I have the means to make the purchase. I just dont want to have to date a salesman in order to receive the ordered item. Guess Im not looking at this the right way

Seems you have a few years of Rolex watch games to catch up on.

Best do some reading, plenty of great info on this forum if you’re able to invest a bit of time doing research.

There are many variables in play. One person's experience doesn't necessarily apply to anybody else. Trying them on first and having a chat to the AD is the sensible first move. How you click with them will be a big determining factor as to what you get and how long you wait. Generally speaking it is reasonable to suppose that a DJ will be offered soonest.

I've never bought anything I didn't want from my AD. However, to that I should add that we've been visiting them and buying things from them for 30 years and this counts for something. You can't force feed a "relationship". It takes time.

How long the wait at the AD is, depends on the model and how much you’re willing to spend at other products. At some AD’s it’s a requirement, at some it isn’t. But it sure will benefit your waiting time..

Agree with you that you should be able to just order a watch and pay for it. But an AD is a company with clients and when there is more demand than supply, it is logical for them to prioritize there regular customers. Some AD’s use their position to leverage additional purchases. Again, they have the supply. It’s nothing more, nothing less.

My advice would be forget buying new from an AD, total waste of time imo.
Just buy whichever model you want right now from a reputable pre owned dealer, many models now aren’t much over retail price, save yourself the wait and games that AD’s play

Just buy a H. Moser & Cie, get a 20% discount, probably drop a bit more but who cares you are an educated individualistic person with a passion for other stuff.

I went to two different types of dealers. A jewelry store AD and a Rolex boutique. I had all my luck at the Rolex only boutique. My wife and I went to the mall because she wanted to look at the LV and Gucci bags. No problem as I new on the same floor was Rolex and Omega. Almost bought a Moonwatch, but left and went into Rolex and met the SA. Put in my request for. Sub and left with little hope. About two months later I had decided to , perhaps, switch to a Sea Dweller . We stopped in and met a different SA. Tried on some watches and all agreed the SD43 fit me well and I switched my ask. While there my wife scored a mint DJ. He offered her a choice between two. I got my SD43 3 months later. I think we just hit it off well and he liked us. Long story , it’s not a sub or Daytona but we got two awesome watches pretty fast. Still no call after a year , from the first AD I visited. OP go to a couple different AD and see. Good luck.
