Regarding the New 6263-Inspired Daytona

Has Rolex ever released such an obvious homage to a well loved vintage model from 40 or 50 years earlier? I don't know the Rolex history as well as many here, but this (beautiful) dial is in no way a tweak of the current look with a slight vintage inspiration, like perhaps rimming the Daytona bezels with metal is. This is a current day model with a dial that is made to look like one from the '60s.

If this is a departure for Rolex, it likely isn't the only one they are contemplating IMO. Thoughts?

I haven't even bothered asking for one. It is nice however.

Not really sure what the plan was sticking 10k on top of the normal RRP just because the print on the sub dials is slightly different.

I assume the movement is decorated

Good luck to anyone who is after one.

Agreed. I don’t think the ring around the bezel detractors have a leg to stand on

The only rolex grail I ever had was a 16610 in the 90's. A few have come close since then but there was never something that I really had to have... until now. This ticks all the boxes. With an 8.25" wrist, the slightly larger diameter and ceramic bezel will wear bigger than previous models. The ceramic bezel available with the bracelet. The Newman sub dials!!! The red on the bezel. And the caseback. (I know it's controversial but it's so much better and interesting than just wg.)

This is the first time that I'd be willing to pay over MSRP.

Even with the dial improvement, seeing the aluminum bezel right there drives in just how much better they look than flashy ceramic. I wonder if Rolex will ever repent of ceramic, even if only on some models. Omega backtracked from ceramic bezels on the Seamaster 300 after all.

I had a feeling a reverse panda might be in the works. Why not? It’s an instant winner and an absolute unobtainable piece for most…

I just use a stool to sit on. Don't bother standing.

The watch is a looker for sure!

What do forum members think AD availability will be? Will each AD get 1-2 of these annually like I assume Platonas and the various color gold Daytonas?

Properly something in between the platona and the normal wg version.

The demand for +40k watches is low/back to normal, and properly will be for some time. So, I actually expected Rolex to make some special pm variations to keep sales going.

I think Rolex, with demand extending capacity, is interested in moving as many PM pieces as possible. And if you look at the platona before the craze started in 2020, it was more a limitation in demand than I production, which was the reason for the few platonas in the market. I expect it to be like that in the next few years as well.

But of course, Rolex is not interested in only selling one variation and will try to spread sales as much as possible to keep long-term value for the customer and the brand. So if demand for some variations gets too high, there will properly be some limitations.

Yes, several Tudors are exactly that.

(Yes, they're one and the same.)

The SD43 is a nod to the 1665 Single Red and celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Sea-Dweller.

SD has always been no cyclops

As for this Daytona I have never been a Daytona guy BUT if I had the chance I think this would be one Id keep.

The Pelagos LHD looks more like the 1665 than the SDCyclops does.
