As owner of the meteorite it is one special watch! The dial is everything on it and it totally mesmerizes!

"$20,000 extra for essentially a dial."

It is interesting to think about.

For example, let's say Rolex only made 5 of that watch, the meteorite GMT in WG. Wouldn't it then be even more than $20,000 more than the "normal" WG GMT? Physically, it's still just that dial that makes the difference, but there's an intangible factor, too, in that hypothetical case: the scarcity. Maybe that's a factor in the non-hypothetical case, too?

I couldn't bring myself to buy either one. On the other hand, if and when the meteorite gets discontinued it will go through the roof in value..

I must admit, I absolutely love blue dialed watches. The Pepsi is my favorite Rolex and always has been. So it’s the perfect fit for me whatever metal Rolex makes it in.

If my wife were completely honest and told me what she thought of my watch habit she would say it’s a (stupid) waste of money and she just doesn’t get it.

We were in Paris and stopped into the AD on the Champs Elysee and they had a meteorite dial BLRO, display only of course. She said it was beautiful, was blown away by it, and I think would love to have one. The meteorite is very special.

Blue dial is sometimes below MSRP from some sellers, how is that possible. ADs selling at a discount or people taking a hit?

The Daytona meteorite/greens are even rougher. I can see why people pay more for dials, but in Daytona/blro situations, I would be perfectly content without the premium and roll that money into another watch.

Dials make the watch imo- Stella Dial Day-Dates as an example. Can fetch quite the premium.

The meteorite dial has to be seen in person to be able to understand. Videos are tolerable but still photos are absolutely awful at conveying the beauty of it. The reflection and shimmer off the various grain patterns is incredible and you discover new ones every time you maneuver the watch.

I picked up my BLRO meteorite a couple months back from the AD and it was my first time seeing a meteorite in person. Absolutely worth the wait from an AD.

I also think the GMT meteorite is the best out of the recent meteorite offerings. The dial grain remains uninterrupted compared to the 116XXX Daytona with the black sub-dials.

Already paying 40k for like 4k worth of gold… might as well pay 20k for some meteorite

This is the same nonsense that you posted back in April.

The other brands that you like to reference are not using the same meteorite (Gibeon). The cost isn’t just for the material itself but also the finishing that goes into the dial. Grab an Invicta which you like to reference and compare their dial finishing with the Rolex.

Very much doubt you’ve seen a Rolex meteorite dial in person.

Meteorite or not, same can be said for everything else. How is it any different than the Turquoise color OP that was trading close to 40k during peak hype. Green dial John Mayer? Olive green and Tiffany dial 5711? And how about watches that cost 2x,3x with all aspects identical in every way with only differentiating factor being a Tiffany & Co stamped on the dial?

For whatever reason(s) certain dials will command a premium over others. At least the Gibeon comet is a dwindling protected national monument in finite quantity. Free market dictates the price. It is what it is.

Cost aside (lets face it we are talking about silly prices for watches across the board here), I love the look of the Meteorite dial. The watch is unique and a future classic imo

However every-time I have tried one on I find the lack of contrast between dial and hands makes it hard to read the time at a glance in certain lighting.

This is definitely more a comment on my eyesight than the watch, nevertheless it doesn't pass the "pub-test" when it comes to factors that i value when I buy a watch, one of which is being able to tell the time at a glance.

Growing old sucks but its better than the alternative

If I was looking for a grey market WG pepsi, I would 100% pay the premium for the meteorite dial, to me having the meteorite dial puts it in a different league from the regular dials.

The Tudor opaline dial BBGMT is the closest I will ever get, but to those who own the WG Meteorite, I salute you. An absolutely gorgeous reference and my favorite in the current catalog.

some strange observations in here

of course there's a huge premium for meteorite; higher demand, lower supply.
No one that's buying it cares that it's 20k more. if you have 42K, you have 62k. if you can't swing the extra 20, you couldn't swing the 42, either.

PS - i'm surprised this watch is only 62K....

PPS - wow, that blue dial is a stunner! it's like the 116619 smurf but with a pepsi bezel and a more wearable blue. wow!
I know Roger Lococco has one, what a great watch!

Is it a huge mark up for the meteorite dial? Yes.....yes it is.

Is that mark up remotely justified from a production cost perspective? Nope. Not in a million years.

Is it objectively worth it? No way.

Is it worth it on a subjective/aesthetic level? To many people, it absolutely is. And it's this last one that is clearly the most important.

Let's not kid ourselves that even our beloved SS Rolex models are somehow representative of the actual material and labour costs involved, because they aren't. Yes we are paying for a good quality product with pretty high quality finishing, etc, but we are also massively paying for the name on the dial, and as much as we don't like to admit that, that is a fact. So if you want something by Rolex that's a little more unique and "rare" (and I use that term very carefully), like a meteorite dial, then you have to pay for it. Simple as that.

One of my friends just picked one up, the meteorite GMT. I did try one on before, as much as I loved it, was very hard to read the time at first glance. So I tried my friends watch again a few days back, I feel vindicated that I did not buy the meteorite as it is indeed tough for me to read.
I opted for the blue dial recently and could not be happier.

I have this GMT meteorite dial and love it so much. I never have any problem in reading the time.

I think the secondary market for this gorgeous timepiece has came down a lot, it should be around low $50s.

Rolex isn't to blame here. Those are prices at a used watch dealership.

When one buys at retail price, the meteorite dial only costs 2,250 EURO more than the blue dial, which in my opinion is completely fair for such a gorgeous dial.
