New Louis Vuitton Tambour

Very interesting release in my opinion. I like the clean design. What’s your first impression?

Like it - 40mm by 8.3mm with a blue dial. It's a good attempt by LV. Steel and integrated bracelet. €19,000.

Movement-wise, seems like a trend now to raise the edge of bridge and plate like the ones in Romain Gauthier C and Gronefeld brothers'. The traditional Côtes de Genève doesn't go well with raised edge hence the frosting. Little bit of perlage under that micro-rotor and balance.

This is actually great. I remember loving their world timer concept years back. Excited to see LV increasing its horological focus.

LV has some pretty neat watches, though the branding not doing it favors. only thing for me is LV doing integrated sports watches meaning we've jumped the shark

My LV client advisor sent me info on this. Wasn't sure how it would be perceived here.

Overall I think it looks nice. Has nice finishing and style in line with many of the integrated bracelet options, such as ones from Moser, Czapek, PF.

https://watchesbysjx.com/2023/07/lou...23-review.html

The Etachron regulator does feel a bit out of place on this caliber, as La Fabrique du Temps have designed some nice movements.
This one is "developed in collaboration with Le Cercle des Horlogers, a movement specialist that shares the same owner as Speake-Marin."

Also, this is also the start of their new strategy to upscale their watches division.
No more quartz and fashion watches, will keep their smart watch line. I think near 80% of their watches were cut starting today.

I wouldn't say we've jumped the shark. The more unique quality options in the market the better. And, it's great to see that kid living the dream turning their watch BU around.

It's nice looking. But it's a $20k watch from a purse company. At least that will be its perception problem...

The movement and bridge are lovely, and I see why LV is trying to push "up market." However, the $20K price is pushing it into a very competitive space.

Beyond the new movement and its nice finishing, the blue sector dial reminds me of the VC fiftysix 3-hander with bracelet. With similar dial design, dressy steel, a more interesting case shape, some lugs and the addition of a date complication, I would take that VC over this LV and save myself $5K. I know I'm going to get some hate here...

I am admittedly biased and have been a supporter of LV high watchmaking for years, under the prior oversight. I was not expecting to like this long-anticipated release. But I really do. Placed my order today.

I’d likely pick the same in this case. But I’ll be keeping my eye on this one. Interested to see the evolution.

Nice attempt at mass appeal. I think they played it too safe. Wish they would have injected slightly more of the brand DNA into the design or at least a little more whimsy to the dial. Will be interested to see how this evolves.

Birkins is Hermes.

I guess if this watch heats up, it will take a few LV bags to buy that watch.

I think you didn’t get my meaning. I was being a bit sarcastic with them being a bag designer, maybe it would work the other way around with them. Buy the pricey watch and get access to our hot designer products. I didn’t know if they had stuff similar to Hermes/birkin where that stuff trades for way over. Would be an interesting tactic. I’m just talking nonsense, I’m sure their watch effort will be strong with the new focus. This watch seems decent but for 20 I prefer streamliner, czapek, pf over this.

very interesting take, especially with the pricing at 19K, LV will be in the same price bracket as Moser and Czapek for example.

I have to say the Tambour reminds me slightly of the Moser Streamliner with its lugless design and fully integrated bracelet to the case. I think it is different in that the case shape is completely round (tho slightly fatter at the case bottom vs top) but I dont see how this is very "LV" vs their worldtimer/dual time options which I thought was very cool

LV has been firing on all cylinders, from their clothes to their bags, and now watches. Boy do i wish I had kept all my LV shares.

I am a fan, well done. Very well done. I read every publication today and watched every video released. This watch is in contention for me next purchase.

Would agree with this take, the LV watch is not bad, especially with the movement finishing at the back but looks-wise would definitely prefer the Czapek and PF over this. This integrated bracelet sports watch category is heating up! Its interesting that LV did not go with a date on this model

The LV design is all over the place in my eyes. Neither a fan of the dial nor of the case and bracelet. The movement is interesting but I'd prefer the Czapek or PF if I wanted a micro rotor powered sports watch for some 20k, or the Streamliner for its more consistent design and (subjectively) better looks.
