Dirty hands?! is this normal?
Hi guys,
Just bought a new datejust last week , Absolutely loving it. However I noticed these marks, smudges on the hands which are super visable in direct sunlight. Is this normal for a 6month old watch? Please watch video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pJ7zEEy0D40 If you look closely all the hands have weird scufffs Thanks |

@OP, after looking at the short video i must say i cannot see which scuffs you mean. I see some spots but they look reflection of light? The camera isn’t stable so i don’t see a big problem. |

"New" as in bought new from a Rolex authorized, brick and mortar, jeweler? If so, take it back and show the jeweler the issue.

If you look at the youtube movies from Grand Caliber with Marco Nicolini you see that every Rolex he puts under the loupe that he finds specs of dust or spots. He says most new Rolexes have those. But i cannot see the spots you mean. Can you make a screenshot of the movie and circle the spots?

I can kind of see it on the seconds hand (close to the centre) but nothing else.
No harm in taking it back and asking them to look at it. |

Yes, not normal.
Give it back or bring it to the AD. Looks like someone opened it and messed with the hands. Maybe while switching the dial. Rolex AD will tell you. My first choice would be to try to get money back |

It’s not a new watch, despite what the dealer says. I guess when you chat with the dealer next you’ll get to test their rep and trustworthiness. You’re in London so you can ask Rolex at st James to look at it. Bear in mind that if they think it’s been messed with then things could get awkward. |

Perhaps excessive lubricant migrated onto the hands? I had a similar issue with an Oris years ago.
If your dealer has a warranty, I’d look into a new handset, if you can’t live with it. Then again, opening up the watch invites other potential issues, consider it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Looks more like a smudge or scuff to me, rather than dust….IMHO from some kind of work

Ah yes, the hallmarks of a "super reputable" dealer.
If they offer their own warranty on the watches they sell, bring it in and request that the hands be replaced. Easy and relatively quick job if they have a watchmaker in their office or one they use nearby. If you send the watch to RCS, you'll be paying for any work to be performed. If it bothers you, you don't need anyone's opinion, only your own. Act sooner, not later. |

Apparently, you bought a used watch. Who knows who opened it along the line for whatever reason. I also could not see anything in the video.

Although there is a lot of good information through these previous posts, the bottom line...if you are unhappy with it, contact the seller. There should be a warranty if the seller is a "full time" dealer.

I’ve seen it/had it happen as well with a pre-owned piece. I personally was bothered and worked with the seller, ended up sending it back

Not normal. Not acceptable. $800 micro brand watches have better hands than this. Do not settle for this. Send it back.

Perhaps it was opened for authentication purposes? Which should have been disclosed, as it could affect warranty validity.

Trotters said some bullshit about how they opened it up to authenticate it and because they were in “such a hurry, to give it to me they might have scratched it”???
They said they will fix the hands and replace them no issues and already have some genuine ones on order for me from Rolex. TBH I’d prefer an exchange or refund but they have absolutely said they are not willing to do that. They will only fix the watch for me. So I’m sitting here thinking what the f**ck. do I have a watch that has been partially harvested for its parts? Do I have a superclone? Or do I just have a piece of trash. I was in love with the watch, but this experience has left a really bad taste in my mouth |
