Chopard Alpine Eagle

This watching is beginning to grab my attention. Any direct feedback here? Would love to see some pics

Jesse (JParm) has one he loves it; hopefully he can chime in here with pics, or if you go over to the open discussion forum and search for any of his travel threads he’s posted a bunch of pics with it on trips with his family.

His plan was to sell it to help justify the RO...

But he couldn't...lol.

I love the AE, I think it's a very underrated integrated!! I think it's a bargain when you consider something like the Ingenieur (sp) going for 12k or whatever it is. (and has the same movement found in 3k Baume and Mercier's).

This watch is very underrated in my opinion, as far as build quality, design and finish, I would place it between the Omega/Rolex category and the VC/AP/PP category. Its that good.

Cool watch, not for me though. Do your research and see what they are selling/trading for before you jump in, if that is a consideration.

I really like the watch and it fits me perfectly. I haven't bought one because I couldn't live with the date placement/presence. 36mm without date is too small.

Great watch, it's an on the fly micro adjust away from being perfect in my opinion. Unfortunately that's a huge negative for me and almost sold awhile back and glad I ended up keeping.

Absolutely-why do these sports watches still not have on the fly adjustment? I sold my Bvlgari Octo Finissimo because of this-such a great watch in all other respects.

Yeah I don't know seems like it should be standard on watches over a certain amount not sure why it's not. When I'm wearing my GO's on bracelet multiple times per day I click it up or down a notch and it's just amazing. Maybe it affects me more than others since I split time throughout the day in an air conditioned office and out in the humid 90 degree weather but it's really an annoyance and why I keep almost everything on rubber.

Completely agree! The convenience and thoughtfulness is incredibly useful and hard to do without

Maybe I need to see one in person to understand the appeal but to me this is a visual disaster. Starting with the narrow center links, the mix of sticks and roman numeral hour markers, the date placement and the bezel screws. I've just never been drawn to this particular model.

The bracelet had a lot of VC in it to me. Not typically my thing but this has really grown on me

Goes to show how subjective it all is I love all the things you just mentioned

I like it visually way more that the royal oak or nautilus have said before if price were the same and demand equal in an alternate universe I’d choose the AE easy. I know I’m on an island there am for a few other watch related things too no doubt!

I absolutely love this watch. It is very comfortable. I might add the XPS to my collection later on, but this watch will always be in my collection.

I'm surprised Chopard doesn't command the attention like other brands do.

Seems like they are rarely discussed among watch enthusiasts.

I love the brand, my wife has plenty of jewelry.

They are independently owned and have been since day one. No changing ownership, no going bankrupt then someone else reviving the brand etc.

The history is significant in my opinion.

I think some of the problem, much like Cartier, is some people just view them as a jewelry company that makes some watches. That's seriously overlooking some great watches in my opinion. I will say, their Mille Miglia line, while affordable generally used ordinary outsourced movements which didn't help their image.

I think they make great products, be it their jewelry and many of their watches. I almost bought one of their St. Moritz chronographs years ago. It was a really nice watch. It's taken me a while to appreciate the Alpine Eagle. Overall, a good looking watch, I love the bracelet and dial color and texture. I just wish it didn't use Roman numerals. Roman numerals, just don't appeal to me on a sports watch, but I have to admit the Alpine Eagle has been growing on me.

They didn't have the standard model with a blue dial, but I got to try on this beauty over the weekend.

What did you think of the tourb? I'm considering it.

To OP: I have several Alpine Eagles (different dials and metals). They are a great watch with mesmerizing dials (due to the iris of the eagle texture). Understated to the extent that the vast majority of people probably don't know what they are, but to true watch people, you can spot it a mile away. Versatile with a suit or sweats. Chopard in Costa Mesa has always treated me exceptionally; they're lovely people. Also, a family-owned business that is an independent, which I happen to really like.

Cheers,
B

Overall, I liked it a lot. The movement is beautiful, and I like the gold micro rotor. The thinner case 8 mm vs 9.7 for the standard time only model, results in it sitting on the wrist differently. It wears smaller than other 41mm watches be it the standard Alpine Eagle, a AP RO 15500, Submariner etc. On the wrist the thinness lends itself to making the watch feel more like a RO Jumbo 15202 which is 8.1mm. Yet it never felt dainty or flimsy, which is one of my complaints about the bracelet of PP's 5711. Seeing that you are a fan and owner of Alpine Eagles, you owe it to yourself to try one on, and see what you think of it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Have several. As others have stated, highly underrated. Also love that Chopard is independent, family-owned.

I have seriously considered the Alpine Eagle multiple times over the last few years:

In fact, I was quite close to pulling the trigger on the blue dial edition twice in the last couple of years:

One of my favorites is the new titanium Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF from this years Watches & Wonders:

I was offered the marine blue back in August, which is absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, I had to turn it down.

However, my patience paid off and I received their spectacular Alpine Eagle 41 XPS last month:

Without a doubt, this is my favorite release from Watches & Wonders 2023:

Compared to the standard Alpine Eagle, the dial is slightly wider, yet the bezel is slightly thinner. The result is a more refined rendition. This 'Monta Rosa' salmon-pink dial with the finishing inspired by the eye of an eagle is something else:

It also has a thinner profile. The standard Alpine Eagle has a case thickness of 9.7mm whereas this XPS has a case thickness of 8.2mm:

The bracelet reminds me of the 1st generation Overseas:

That would have made this absolutely perfect. There is no micro-adjustment feature, but they do offer half links, which I'm currently waiting for (takes about 3 weeks). Unlike the standard Alpine Eagle, the bracelet features a triple folding clasp with safety pushers:

As we peak into the engine room, she's powered by their in-house COSC certified L.U.C 96.40-L with 65 hours of power reserve. Just a mere 3.3mm thick, it has two stacked barrels and a gold micro-rotor. All movement components are finished to the standards of Poinçon de Genève:

Eric provides a great summary of the critiques many have for the Alpine Eagle. You will primarily hear the Roman numerals and the 4:30 date window in the various forums. But it's very personal and subjective:

I find it quite comfortable to wear. The dial changes depending on lighting conditions. Interestingly, I find a like the dial more in overcast skies / low lighting conditions. It becomes a darker shade of salmon:

Finally, this is a lesson learned from my experience trying to obtain the Omega Speedmaster Calibre 321 'Ed White.' When the AE XPS was announced, there was nothing stating it was boutique only. However, I saw a lot of serious interest across the various forums. Instead of contacting my local AD, I reached out to the Chopard Boutique. They told me to expect my piece late this year / early next year, which I considered was very reasonable with no prior purchase history:

I was beyond ecstatic and completely surprised by the text stating my piece had arrived. I've said this before and I'll say it again: Chopard sets the gold standard for customer service! Despite no prior purchase history, I was able to acquire this stunner without any mind games or needing to purchase unwanted pieces! Other brands can learn from Chopard! Good luck, Mike!
