Is there something amiss about this 18248 bezel?
I'm curious because every example I see online has a bark bezel with little engine turned polished squares every so often, but this one is bark patterned throughout. Is there something off about that, or is it just a configuration I see less of?

The all-bark bezel is earlier than the interrupted one, but idk if the change was ~1988 when this reference replaced the 18078, or later. What letter is the serial?

The information by miamiclay is correct. Interestingly the watch looks like a 18078 because also the date wheel with open 29 suggests an older model (pre ~1988). Never seen a 18248 with the earlier bezel style but it could be possible.
On the other hand there are many interrupted bark bezel 18078 on sale (the earliest one a 1985 9 mill serial). But there is the possible explanation that the newer style bezels are service ones.
