My very first Rolex
Hello! My name is a Peter, just got my first Rolex last week to celebrate a milestone of being a new father. A Datejust 41 in mint green, smooth/oyster. I never thought of myself to ever own a Rolex, and to be completely honest I thought they were a huge waste of money. After trying it on for the first time I was mesmerized. I began realized that I have one life to live and the beauty of what a Rolex represents; not the status but my growth as a person. The color of the dial is the birth month of my daughter which was the final deciding factor. I got on this forum after receiving my first scratches and it's killing me!

CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of your daughter! As an August birthday person myself, I love peridot green! And congratulations on your first Rolex!
Everyone stresses over the first scratch or dent on a new car, so my philosophy is to drive your brand new car home, park it, get a hammer, and then put a small dent in an inconspicuous place. You'll have your first dent and you won't worry about subsequent dings/dents/scratches. I don't advocate deliberately scratching a new Rolex, but the basic premise is the same -- once you have the first scratch, which represents that you are living life to the fullest while wearing your watch, you won't worry about the next few hundred scratches. |

Congratulations. I can relate to your reaction when you first put the watch on. The first scratch is always the worst, you watch is unique now.

Congrats. Enjoy the watch - it’ll get scratched up, it’ll never look quite as good as the day you bought it but enjoy wearing it!

Congrats, Peter! Allow the scratches to remind you of your own words: That your watch reflects your past and future growth, not status. I hope you continue to enjoy wearing it for years to come!

Congratulations on your new baby daughter. Your life has changed forever. Also, congrats on the new green Datejust. If you haven’t already, download Tapatalk, which makes it easier to upload pics. We’d love to see your new green beauty.

Congrats on both counts! I got my first one a few weeks ago (36mm DJ) for similar reasons - something I can hand down to my 11 month old son someday.
Don't worry about the scratches - someday your daughter will appreciate the patina of 'this old Rolex I remember dad always wore'. In the meantime, try and get some sleep? lol. |

Congrats on the new arrival(s)!
I was in the exact same boat a year ago with new baby and watch to celebrate. If you don’t like scratches, my top tip is to be careful when changing nappies/ clothes. I’ve found trying to change a baby who’s kicking and wriggling while wearing outfits covered in zips and fasteners to be the cause of most of the marks on mine! |

Thank you everyone for the comments! Definitely makes me feel better with the scratches. Trying to learn that scratches, dents and blemishes are the things that give my Rolex character and has a story behind it. It's my ocd that's getting to me but it's something I need to work on. Each day I wear this watch, it can be a reminder that not everything can be perfect and accept the beauty in everything.
I'm really trying to post a picture! I need 10 comments before I can post on tapatalk (thx u Kat for the recommendation) and I even downloaded Flickr to resize it but it's too complicated. Only 8 more comments to go and I'll post a pic! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Congratulations! Having a daughter is wonderful. My daughter is now 23, and she's still my baby girl.
