Gathering Dust

My 14060M non-date cosc is I admit to set in the display box. Nothing wrong with it, just recently serviced by RWSC Dallas. I bought it new around 2007. The problem is a Rolex malaise. It simply fails to excite. I have been wearing my Patek Philippe. No not a Nautilus of Aquanaut. I would opt out from those because of the hype, rather than concentrating on the horological aspects. So for the foreseeable future my Sub will sit on display.

That’s not a problem. And that’s why having some variety is a good thing. Enjoy the PP.

Sounds like your plan, and look forward to you graduating to the next level of horology. What are your future plans, an MB&F, Armin Strom, Torsti Laine, Kari V, or ????

I truly get it. Although the 5 digit sub doesn't excite me either, I no longer own one. On the other hand I have a number of watches which I genuinely like. However, after getting my new Sky-Dweller on OF, I went to switch to a different watch yesterday and couldn't bring myself to do it.

If it doesn't excite you, sell it to someone who will enjoy using it every day and put that cash towards something that does excite you. Win-win.

The M is a great reference. Maybe you’ll pick it up again sometime soon and rediscover the love

Personally I find subs boring. Nothing wrong with them but aesthetically boring. Possibly because I have seen so many on the “wrong” wrists?

Patek - really find Nautilus bland too. Borders on ugly. Plenty of beautiful Pateks I am happy to own but not that one.

Maybe you just have good taste.?

I’m not a collector and only keep watches that get lots of wrist time so I would move it on if you don’t wear it for 6 months.

I too am not excited like I used to be by the Submariner (with or without date), and this is one of two watches that I adored as a young boy and throughout adulthood.

Having said that, I would keep the 14060M. There is always room for this watch in a small collection and you will come around again and appreciate having it.

Once it's gone you'll certainly regret it even if several years from now.

I know I'm not letting my sub date go.

That’s a magnificent reference of the submariner.

I have no doubt it will work it’s way back into your good graces at one point….. until then enjoy other watches in your collection.

These days I prefer to only keep watches that I know I will wear, unless there is some sentimental significance to the timepiece. It may be good to just let it sit a while and revisit it at a later time, you may change your mind.

I get it. I feel the same way about my ExII. I love it but I rarely wear it. Last year, I probably wore it less than 10 times.

There's no ladder for me to climb. I already did it and didn't like the view. If anything, I've "moved down".

For me its also about going through phases in my life, and which watch I was wearing at the time.
I have lots of nice pieces but at the moment its by 16570 Polar that gets most of the wrist time. But I also don't think I'll ever get rid of my 20 year old and had from new 16600.
These watches will last a lifetime and more, and in horological terms Rolex moves at a glacial pace so if your 14060M sits in its case for 10 years so what.

What Patek do you wear now?

I get the need for a switch - for one thing, your Sub was in Dallas for so long you had to wear something else.

In a sense you are estranged - it will seep back into your mind…
