It is now a hot watch. ADs struggled to sell them when they were in production.
Most people did not like the heft and preferred the Submariner line. The added price put a lot of folks off also. |

The Uber Submariner. Some believe it to be the best modern Rolex Dive watch. I think the clean lines, best proportions, no cyclops, and indices all around the bezel make it pop. It's a lovely watch and the engraving/Markings on the case back are a nice touch. It should make a Nice comeback in terms of popularity in the next few years, In my opinion and mine only. Grab one while you can.

I have a 16600, and also a 116600.
The SD4K is 'flashier' version of the 16600, with its ceramic bezel and more robust bracelet. Both are leagues above the subs of the same generation and perfect if you like being a bit different to the Sub crowd. If you have one keep it close, and if you don't have one get one soon but quietly |

They should re-issue this reference, in Titanium.

This 1000%. I had and wore extensively a SD4K for 4.5 years, only selling it in Jan 2023 to find a SS Daytona at retail. As much as I love/d the 116600, I must confess that at times it did feel a little heavy. Ti would fix that minor “issue”. Still it’s the best modern Rolex diver in my mind Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The 116600 is my one watch regret. When it came out I fancied checking it out, so I phoned one of the two Rolex ADs in my area and they just happened to have one in stock. (Remember it was like that back then, plus the SD4K was a very slow seller!) I went in, tried it on, but ultimately passed on it as I was more into 44mm to 48mm Breitling’s, Panerai, and IWC at the time, and I felt it was just a bit too small.
Regretted it ever since.

Have had my SD4K for many years now. Was thinking of selling to make the move into a Daytona so I started wearing the SD4K again to make sure I was ok selling. Unfortunately not sure I want to sell it now. Lol. Besides it being a bit thick and heavy, for my small, thin wrists, it’s truly the perfect looking, do everything watch to me. So I need to do some more thinking.

Nice watch. Not for me though even back in the day when they were discounted. Now, no way.

I bought the SD4k soon after its release in 2014. My AD said mine was the first one they received. I remember trying it on along with a 114060 in the case and wondering whether it was worth almost $4k more for a date complication and a helium escape valve. The matte dial is another great feature.
I bought it and have no regrets. I’ve always loved the Sea Dweller over the sub and to this day have never owned a sub. In my opinion the 116600 is the greatest dive watch ever made by Rolex or anyone else. I just love the proportions and the way it’s so over built yet still 40mm. Back in 2015/2016, the SD4k’s sold on here for as low as $7500 as it just wasn’t that desirable. I remember them always being in the showcase available for purchase. The discontinuation was a real curve ball. Rolex just didn’t make a watch for such a short amount of time then. I think this will always be a collectors item. They made the 16600 for almost 2 decades (?) and the 116600 for less than three years. I was real put off by the new one with the red text and the cyclops. A cyclops doesn’t belong on an SD in my opinion. The 116600 is the last true Sea Dweller. |

I really want to pick up the 116600 but the only thing holding me back is that that minute hand does not “tickle” the minute track like the 16600. I’ve gotten used to being able to set the minute hand exactly on the minute mark with the 5 digit SD.

SD4K has been my daily for the last 7 years for everything. Picked it up from DSW back when they were going for a song. So much cumulative wear that the movement was totally locked up and required RSC in three years… but I blame Rolex for nothing. This watch is stout and I’ll never sell it!

I have one and just love it. it is so unique, mat dial, no cyclops, perfectly sized and the last of the real purpose built diver tool watch. A production run of only 3 years.
it didn't sell well back then as people could not see the difference between a sub and this one, but the real aficionados did. Never to part ways with it |

Traded my first edition Deepsea and sub 16610 recently for the Sd4k. Great watch. I do miss the Deepsea as it was awesome but will eventually add the Deepsea JC with the wider bracelet as the first edition had certain flaws IMO which they rectified.

Great question and tbh I’m still honeymooning with my Daytona so my answer now could be different than say in another 12 months! My above current bias aside, I am happy with the effective straight trade I made. I would not have been/be comfortable adding significant funds into the mix. Both great watches Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It’s my longest serving watch, I got mine on 02 May 2014 which was the first day they were delivered to ADs. I picked mine up at 09:30 so mine was probably one of, if not the first sold in the UK.
It was pretty unpopular so got discontinued a couple of years later, and as a result became hot. But I loved it from the moment it was released, the fully graduated bezel really makes for a great look. Mine is the beater in the collection, but also arguably my favourite.
