General thoughts on Vacheron Constantin Overseas (2nd Gen)
Greetings, I've been thinking about picking up a 2nd gen Overseas.
Any owners out there with feedback? Any non-owners with feedback? Thinking about the textured, black dial variant 47040/B01A-9094 but also the silver dial is just as stunning (see pic). The black dial seems much more utilitarian to me, and almost gives off vibes of the Explorer with the 3, 6, 9 applied numerals. At only 9.7mm thick, it's impressively thin for an anti-magnetic, shock resistant and depth rated 150m watch. But it is a VC, so I guess that's to be expected. Prices seem great for the 2nd gen. During covid, they spiked, but now are much more reasonable. I realize out of the PP Nautilus and AP Royal Oak, the Overseas seems to always be in 3rd place. But that's 3rd place in excellent company. Curious if the movement has the Geneva Seal? The watch is powered by the Vacheron Constantin Calibre 1126 which is based on the (and I believe built by) Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 889. What do you think about it? |

I personally prefer the 3rd gen (I own the v7900 in silver), as I'm not a big fan of the 3, 6, 9, 12 numerals of the 2nd gen.
That said, the bracelet and overall case shape (which I both love) are quite similar I believe, so if the dial pleases you, and you don't mind the JLC-based caliber with a closed case back (3rd gen went for open case back and it is amazing), I'd say go for it. Just note that even my 41mm 7900 wears quite large, and if I'm not mistaken the 2nd gen was even 42mm, you may want to try it on before buying. |

Yes, I too prefer the gen 3, but it's out of my price range for now. The clear case back and seeing that beautiful movement is amazing. |

I used to own this watch with the white dial. Quick summary of my thoughts are the bracelet and case are great but I found the dial to be pretty underwhelming and this is ultimately why I sold the watch. With regards to the movement it ran absolutely fine for me although certainly felt a little delicate when winding it. Caseback was cool, nice and thin and wore nicely on my 6.75 wrist. At the time I bought the watch I could’ve bought a AP 15300 blue dial for about 3K more but decided to take the cheaper option.
I also lost money when I sold the VC |

I find the Gen 2 Chronos superior to Gen 3 chronos. The big date app in the Gen 2 is a way better look and sets VC apart from from the AP. But they decided to play follow the leader in Gen 3… setting them back again. Oh well.
That said, the Gen 3 time/date does have a better design than the gen2 in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have a 2nd gen, it is my daily wear as it is mostly brushed. It is a late-production, everything works perfect. Robust and utilitarian yet elegant.

I think the Gen 2 is the best generation.
Bracelet a big improvement over the first generation and the design seems to have better proportions to me than the 3rd generation. |
