Submariner No-Date or Date? The Age Old Question

I’d just love to hear what people have to say about this and their reason why.

Sub is no-date. End of story.
Date belongs to DJ or DD.
That's why I don't have GMT

ND, symmetrical and timeless. Clean.
Date, premium and iconic cyclops. Extra complication may be helpful.
Can’t go wrong with either. I chose Date twice.

For its intended use, the Submariner shouldn't have the date. Why do you need to know what day it is when you are underwater?

If you are posing, the date can be useful.

I think there are many more posers than there are divers.

If someone likes the look of the sub, wants the date but doesn’t like the cyclops, there is the option of the sea-dweller.Name: IMG_7139.jpg

For me, I prioritised the clean and symmetrical aesthetic over the functionality of the date.

It's also a lot faster to set the watch when it's time only

Had the 114060 and 124060. The sub without a date is a gateway to get a Rolex with the iconic cyclops. After having the sub without a date, paired with the BLNR, Rootbeer, Datejusts, and bluesy, I never went to the no date. It didn’t feel like a Rolex without the cyclops which makes Rolex unique. So I moved on from the no date, but then always craved having an all black Rolex back. I realized what I was really chasing was the black sub date. It is the perfect watch, really only one you need. It is the most iconic and popular watch ever for a reason.

No date for me as I've grown to dislike the Cyclops over the years. You have to look at it pretty much dead on to see the date, as it obscures the date at even a slight angle, and it gathers dirt around the edges. I have several date watches with no cyclops and can see the date easily, even without my reading glasses.

I guess it was a useful feature when it first appeared in the 1940s on Datejusts, but I wonder if Rolex now isn't just making the date window deliberately small so the Cyclops seems more useful than it really is. It's an 80-year-old solution to a small date window on a 36mm watch. On sports models, Rolex could easily make the date larger and drop the Cyclops.

I prefer the ND because my other have date. ND is true to its root.

But if that’s your only rolex, get the date.

if it's your daily watch and your only Sub, date model makes more sense.....if it's weekend or add to a collection, no-date version would suffice

This has been well discussed on the forums. Some love the cyclops and date. Others love the symmetry of the original. And that it flies unrecognisable unless one recognises the watch or logo.

No date is my preference. I have a datejust and gmt my no date watches get substantially more wrist time

I prefer the clean symetrical look of the no date…
And I do not need the date. Always carrying a mobile phone with my outlook calendar anyway…
Also I like that it is not as obvious that it is a Rolex, attracts a little less attention…

No date, cyclops is just ugly, totally unbalanced and ruins every Rolex model that has one imo

I prefer a no date watch though.

The symmetry on the No-Date is epic. Being a diver you don't really need a date. Having said that I like the Date version as well, looking to add both but the No-Date is my favourite.

When it comes to the black dials, I definitely prefer the standard Submariner, no doubt. However, I prefer the 126613LB over both, and that would look silly without a date.

The classic Submariner sans date is on my list. I’ve already got the flashier Rolesium Yacht-Master to satisfy my cyclops date-window needs.

The cyclops has never been a good look on a Sub. Team ND.
