Batman after a Submariner

I have been interested in getting a Batman for a while now. But, the other day when i tried it on, i looked at it and thought is it really different enough to be my second watch after the 12 series Subdate. I am interested in the GMT, and really like the look of the Batman, but now having second thoughts.

For those that have both, do you look at them differently or just part of rotating?

If you get it on Jubilee, it is a totally different look. I would say if I had to choose one though I prefer the GMT w/Jubilee for it's versatility and invest in a second bracelet which would be a brushed Oyster

This for me as well

In addition to looking different, it wears quite a bit different too

So you would rather have a comic book character than a Rolex GMT-Master II 126710BLNR

They are only $$$€€€€ objects now that will never be used to fly a PanAm anyway like in the good ol' days so there's that

BLNR is nice and all, but I think a BLRO on Jubilee is a much better partner for a black Sub. It's more iconic and gives you a little more variety.

Agree.

If you actually use the GMT function it's nothing like a Sub, even if they look superficially similar. The GMT on a Jubilee bracelet not only transforms the aesthetic but wears more comfortably, although it's not uncomfortable on the Oyster.

As others have already said - go with a Jubilee GMTII.

And/or go with the VTNR for more differentiation (this is my plan (124060 -> 126710VTNR).

So my very wonderful AD just called me about a BLNR Jubilee being available, and I'm getting it. I have a Submariner too, but FWIW, I also have a DJ41 as well...so that adds even more variety.

Thing is, once I get my BLNR, I'm not sure I'm going to wear any other watch for a long time...So that's the downside...But eventually, I'll get into some sort of rotation.

I had them both - I think the green sub and blnr is a better match, but you can’t go wrong either way.

Tough call on that one. It really depends on the depth of your collection, in my opinion. If these are your only two pieces, then I would think there is too much overlap in the overall look of the watches. Sure, using a jubile would definitely change the look, but you can still tell these two watches are sisters. That is still too similar to me.

Now if you have multiple watches, then sure go ahead, get both the Sub and GMT.

I agree. I have both and wear them for different occasions/uses. Sub for sports, boating, beach. GMT for travel, business casual. Bidirectional bezel and gmt hand are for different functions, if you use the watches for that.

How big is the scratch problem on the polished oyster links in the GMT? Vs Submariner which is brushed look

I have both, and the BLNR is even on Oyster. If I had to pare down to just 2 watches, I still think these would be the 2 I'd keep. In my weird mind it's basically just 1 watch but just enough variation to keep things interesting. I think if I had just either as an only watch I'd get bored. But you have to really love that Rolex Sub/GMT design to justify having both imo, but a lot of people DO love it, like I do.

As far as jubilee, I do think that's the way most people should go that are considering this pairing. I personally go back and forth on the jubilee on a sports watch (right now I'm in the "no" phase), but I think the Oyster always looks good no matter what. So I'm good with it being on Oyster.

Sub/DJ is definitely the best 2-Rolex combo.

I agree jubilee on GMT vs sub, the bracelet makes quite a difference.

But I’ll go against the grain and say the watches are too similar in design. Case design, fluted bezel, dial layout, indices, hour/minute/second hands, cyclops with date, ceramic bezel - all too similar.

I have an explorer, so already have a watch with a brushed oyster bracelet. I like the sub, but I like the gmt more and tried to justify getting a sub in my collection but too much overlap.

Maybe an LV for added color difference, or a no date sub.
