Just got my rolex service quote for ceramic submariner bezel replacement

Alright everyone i sent my submariner for a complete overhaul as well as replacing the bezel and crystal. For anyone wondering a Crystal is 135$ and the ceramic bezel was 484$. Now onto my question the estimate said note: LINK NOT INTENDED FOR THIS MODEL and in the overhaul section they included link replacement. Im not sure what this means really i had the watch and the bracelet looked fine to me even under a loupe compared to my other ceramic submariners i called them and they didnt have any more information than the note provided what does this mean? Was it a fake link? Was it off of a watch with polished center links that was then finished i mean how would they even know if thats the case. Thank you

If you purchased the watch new from an AD then it is very odd, but I assume you bought it secondhand, which doesn't make it so odd.

The previous owner obviously added a link, known or unbeknown to them that was not intended for that particular bracelet.

Is the cost of the bezel replacement for the entire bezel, or just insert?

That’s not awful. I had thought the ceramic bezels were quite costly. I guess fairly costly compared to aluminum, but I thought it was even more so.

Some of the early ceramic bezels which met tile floors were over a grand.

Reasonable pricing imho, sorry someone installed an incorrect link. No worries, Rolex can correct this

$484 US for a bezel? Sheesh, I better never drop mine. lol

If those real vs fake Rolex YouTube videos have taught me anything it's some modern fakes are almost bang on visually and in feel. If you had a fake or whatever link maybe just be thankful that you won't any more.

I wouldn’t stress too much you have to trust their judgment. The question you didn’t answer was did you buy it from an AD? If so that changes everything

You should ask the grey dealer why they sold you with a fake link...

Have to agree give the aluminium inserts any day, easy to change yourself and cost around $75 or less.

Do you have a picture of the bracelet before you sent it in?

I don't care for the new Rolex Sub with the ceramic bezel. Not that I don't love a ceramic bezel as it defiantly has it's place.

But the ascetics of the older 40mm Subs with the aluminum bezel just seems more like the watch that made them famous to me. They don't crack in a time of need and just look like they belong on a watch of that nature.

Just my personal preference on the Submariner. Having said that, My daily has a ceramic bezel and I enjoy it for the scratch resistance. But I don't explore underwater caves anymore either. If I were to buy another Submariner it would be a no date aluminum bezel just for the looks.

The pricing seems pretty reasonable to me. Installing those ceramic bezels is a pain and I’ve heard rumors that some perish during the process. As for the link. Clearly, RSC has identified a link that wasn’t OEM for your watch. Like many things, a discerning eye can tell.

Omega replaces the entire bezel- the insert is "clocked" to the bezel when manufactured and the "clicks" are fixed in the case (known precise position), so everything aligns perfectly.

I think Rolex caught on to this after so many complaints about alignment issues, but I don't know that for sure.
