Watch appraisals for Insurance purposes?
I want to get my new Y-Serial Sub covered on my homeowner's policy. My Agent tells me I need a receipt or appraisal. Figured as much as I did this for my wife's wedding ring.
I have a receipt my TZ seller gave me, but it is not on store letterhead etc. Anyone know any San Francisco AD or ??? who will do this for a decent fee? Shreve wants $125...which feels a bit high. Tourneau - in their typical rude fashion - first asked me if I bought the watch there - then told me they don't do appraisals. Asked if they could recommend anyone and of course they said no. Guess that's why they have a 2-star rating on yelp.com. Harrumph. |

I would just call around to the various ADs and see what their prices are. I recently had mine appraised for the same reason, and an AD here charged $80 for the first piece and $40 for any after that. The other local AD was similarly priced. It might be a good opportunity to have some other pieces appraised as well.
My guy looked at the papers, matched up the proper numbers on the case, had a good look at everything, and copied the price right from a GMT IIc out in the showroom. |

The seller should be able to send you a receipt on letterhead or an appraisal with the watch. Anytime I purchase with my jewler/AD the appraisal is free. They also re-appraised my watch when I added the aftermarket bezel and increased the watch value according to the Rolex price increase. I am suprised this question comes up this often. I feel the dealer should include an appraisal as part of the deal. It really doesn't cost them anything to write on a letter head how much you paid for something!!!! |

Thanks for the advice...was just hoping someone knew of a local San Francisco AD or resource for appraisal.
Keschete, I bought from a reputable seller on the forum - not an AD - but he is an individual seller - not an AD. He gave me a receipt of course... |
