Skydweller Musings/Two questions
Hi everyone,
Dusting off my account as I am beginning the search for a stainless steel Skydweller. I was initially interested in the BLRO GMT, but the Skydweller just stopped me in my tracks. I've visited the two AD's near me in Kansas City, and actually had really positive experiences with both of them, and have my name down for a Skydweller with a white (which I have yet to see in person, would want to before committing) or a black dial, bracelet agnostic. After reading AD experiences here, I was pleasantly surprised that both were more than happy to take down my information and put me down on the list for them. I did share that I'd owned both a Datejust and a Milgauss in the past, so maybe that counted a tiny bit in my favor. The first AD I went to was really great, spent an hour or so with them, second was pleasant but didn't click quite as much. Anyhow, the question - those of you all that wear a skydweller every day - do you find it too heavy? Also, any preferences on the bracelet? And one more question - any speculation on wait times for black or white dial stainless steel Skydwellers? Thank you! |

Glad you found the right model for you. I don't quite daily it, but the SkyD is one of my most frequently worn pieces. I originally purchased on Oyster, and also purchased a Jubilee bracelet through Rolex.
I do not find it too heavy, especially on Oyster. At the end of the day I prefer it on Oyster on a daily basis, but like the dressy look on Jubilee for an evening out. I'd venture to guess it's about a 6 month wait as both the black and white are approaching retail + tax on the secondary market, but note Rolex had a minor refresh of the calibre that powers the SkyD in the 2H of 2023. Best of luck, you'll enjoy any/all of the color/bracelet combos! |

I have the white variant. Originally purchased on oyster but added jubilee a few months after. Probably waited 5-6 months but have solid purchase history with my AD.
I haven't been wearing it as much as I recently got a SS Daytona but it's one of my favorites. It wears heavier than the Daytona but they are 2 different watches. You will love it. Good luck. |

My brother and I have experiences with both of the Kansas City ADs within the past couple years. We got a DD, LV Sub, YM OF, and TT Wimbledon DJ all around 6 months wait or less. I bet your Sky shows up in 2024.

While it is a bit hefty, it's not 'too heavy' imho. Have both bracelets and for my 6.75" skinny-ish wrist the Oyster bracelet helps 'hold the weight' better centered (the head tends to 'better' stay centered-ish on my wrist). Personally, there's no 'wrong' choice with the SkyD. It's an incredible timepiece imho.

I have a white dial Sky-Dweller on Oyster. Only had to wait a month or two for mine in 2020. No complaints about size or weight. It's definitely on the heftier size for Rolex at 42mm and with the complications, but wears very nicely. I don't daily wear it, but could. My only real complaint is lack of dial contrast with the white dial making it hard to read easily in some situations, but didn't like the black dial, and also not a fan of the Rolex blue dials either, so stuck with the white! It's a really gorgeous watch! Good luck getting yours. You'll love it.

I have a white dial on jubilee. If I am traveling I pick one watch for the trip and more often it has been the sky dweller. Initially it feels a bit more substantial but you acclimate quickly and it is an absolute stunner.
I like the jubilee - it is really comfortable and ultimately I have totally fallen for the bright white dial. It is very unique to that model. |

Blue SS Sky- love the weight and feel. It has a real nice wrist presence - like a beefed up DJ. I always preferred the oyster bracelet (have it on the Sky and Pepsi) for the look. Have never tried on a jubilee bracelet on any watch but people seem to really like the feel of it.

I have a Blue SS SkyD and don’t find it too big or too heavy. My wrist is 6.5ish.

I currently own the SS Sky-Dwellers with the Black and White Dials. I had the blue dial but an offer to sell was too good to pass up. I also have the YG Sky-Dweller on a bracelet. My SS watches were purchased on an oyster bracelet but I added the jubilee for both and prefer the jubilee. If I could only have one, it would be the white dial as it is color neutral and works with everything. The black is great and gets a lot of wrist time. I do not daily these watches as I have a large collection and wear through many.

For me bracelet preference for the Skydweller was easy. Oyster is standard on other models and the 22mm lug width allows the ExplorerII oyster to be swapped over, so Jubilee was the easy choice. The fluted bezel and Jubilee is a great package but not for everyone since it reflect quite a bit of light. If you like a larger watch than 40/41mm, I think you will like it a lot. I really like the 42 Explorer II so the slightly larger and slightly thicker case is not an issue. Best to you!

Either is fine, I prefer the Jubilee for weight and comfort, not that the Oyster is uncomfortable per se. Unknown. It will depend on the AD and there is an element or right place right time. In 2019 my AD couldn't list me for a black SS because of demand for all morels (I went to the secondary market). In 2020 they offered me a TT white (which I took). In 2022 they got me a blue SS in six months. So for me, availability and supply have been all over the place. |
