Explorer has stopped....

Appreciate some advice as my 2006 Explorer has stopped after my usual manual wind failed to get it going. As I only wear it occasionally it's become normal practice to manually wind -around 20 crown turns- and off it goes however, when I did this recently there was much less resistance and the second hand didn't move. I gave it a few shakes and noticed the second hand moved forward a few seconds then stopped and vibrated back and forth before completely stopping. I've owned it from new and have never had it serviced. Clearly something has malfunctioned/broken. Can anyone recommend a London based independent watch specialist as I would like to avoid sending to Rolex as no doubt it will cost considerably more.

Thanks in advance

That’s a bummer, I mean you’ve avoided the 500+ 5 year service for about 3X so I guess you didn’t do too bad assuming it’s something simple.
Good luck!

Steve Pick in South Yorkshire is quite good. You can find him on Facebook.

Sounds as though the mainspring might have broken. That's your ideal situation, honestly. I wouldn't panic just yet.

My first thought as well, based on what he described. If it were mine, ai’d send it to RSC. It might be more expensive, but worth the money, especially since it has never been serviced. My 2 cents

Try giving it 40 full crown turns clockwise only if then will not start possible mainspring is broken. It watch has not been serviced for say 5 years have it serviced by RSC mainspring will be replaced as part or service.

Why limit to 20 turns? Continue winding it.

Mainspring, time for a service. Easy to get done. Just like new.

Don’t skimp on the service, especially since you’ve avoided one for over a decade past the recommended service interval. Send it to RSC. You’ll also get a 2 year warranty with the service.

Not a big deal. At 17+ years, a service should provide an easy fix and have it running and looking like new again.

Sounds like something that happened to my SKX time. I sent it in and it was a quick easy fix, it was still under warranty.
But if it’s the same thing, I’m sure any local watchmaker could do it easily

That’s a broken mainspring I reckon. Happened to my old GMT once.
Not a big deal. Get RSC to fully service the watch, good to rock for another 15 years haha
