day date help

hello all,
i got a dj41, slate dial, fluted, oyster (see photo) last year. when i got it i thought i was going to be a one rolex guy and it feels like the most diverse. i love it. can wear it up or down. was never a gold guy , but my at my ad i tried on a day date 36 / yellow gold. this one had the champagne dial, but i like the white dial also. my wrist is small enough to accommodate the 36mm. i would probably wear it for more formal and my dj41 for other purposes. i personally was never into the more sporty rolexes...i feel like i can get a similar watch in the omega brand. so, my question is....are these two watches to similar for a small collection?

If you're asking if a SS DJ41 is similar to a YG DD36, then yes, they're similar.

They both have similarly-shaped cases, they both have fluted bezels, they both have a cyclops date magnifier.

One, although physically smaller in dimensions, is substantially heftier & has a significantly more comfortable bracelet, plus an added function. The 36 is a great size for most human beings with wrists. If you can swing it, get it. Day-Dates on President bracelets are a sight to behold & experience.

While similar, they are not too close for me to not be considered. The YG DD is an icon and a classic. Different wearing experiences and feels to the watch. If you want a PM watch the DD might be the one.

They are both similar in a lot of ways, but at the same time are 2 very different watches! Wearing each one will give a different experience, and also each one will work better for different occasions. DJ was always the more entry level model and the DD was always known as the top of the line model. I think it would be great to own both!

You mentioned that you are considering a 36mm DD. Since you already have a DJ41 (and I am assuming that you enjoy wearing it), have you considered a 40mm DD? Or was the 36mm the one they had available is why you're considering that size? I would try on a 40mm and see if you like it. When you're spending that kind of money, make sure you get the one that you will enjoy most.

They are very diff watches in my opinion. A YG piece just wears differently than any steel piece. I think white and yellow is a great 2 piece collection where u can have one for more casual under the radar situations and one for something a bit more bold. I have a plat and a YG DD. My YG is 36 but seems to be bigger bec of the color and that plat can mask as steel for most who have no idea.

The 36mm DD seemed to just look better/more formal for what I am going to wear it for. The DJ 41 also fits good especially bc I wear it dressed down intermittently. I never tried on a 40mm DD but good idea.

As many said, they are similar but different. For me, YG is spectacular while the WG flys very low and is worn 5X more than the YG. The DJ is worn in environments a little too harsh for the PMs.

I have a DD40 and it’s the best purchase I’ve made.

The only downside is now when I wear my DJ41 or sub it just doesn’t feel the same

I worry about this also.
I figure I will wear my DJ41 for less formal events and it will still feel special.
But I see your point.

I don’t think they are at all too similar - The YG alone gives it a completely different look and feel. This may be especially so with the champagne dial, although imo the white dial you liked might be a better “contrast choice” to pair with your slate dial DJ.

Enjoy! There are many good reasons why the 36mm DD is considered such a timeless classic.

I will agree. I won't ever buy a steel Rolex after wearing a PM rolex

I have a DD40 rg olive and a DJ41 TT yg. The president and oyster bracelets wear differently especially the weight of the former.

Tried on another yellow gold day date 36mm with champagne dial. Was beautiful but still contemplating if too similar to my DJ 41 and if I should diversify ?

Personally I would not own both. Too similar. I'd keep the DJ and add a sport model. The DJ is a beautiful watch and covers the dressier end of things. Add a diver or GMT.

I own the same Datejust, but on jubilee. It's a terrific watch.

I think a DJ and DD (36 or 40) make a great 2-piece collection. Very different wrist experience, but you can dress them both up or down.

While a DJ is a great “do everything” option, my guess is that once you get the DD36 you’ll be surprised how often you wear it. A DD could very easily be an every day wearer; it’s that versatile.
