I was told by a reliable AD last week that all Palm motif and fluted dials have been retired so could be true also about the YMII

I don’t see YM2 values climbing even if they do discontinue it because the number of people who want to wear a 44mm watch with truly the most useless complication in modern horlogerie is quite small.

i don't know and i don't care tbh. This watch is a monstrosity as far as i'm concerned, and does not even have the potential of being a future classic when discontinued.

I disagree that it’s a monstrosity, but I do agree that it won’t be considered a future classic.

I’m surprised the YMII has lasted this long, I don’t think it has ever sold well. Probably the Rolex version of someone’s “vanity project,” so much money was spent on its development they wanted to recoup at least part of its cost.
As far as dials being dropped, that is routine for Rolex. A core group of classic variations have been around for decades, novelty dials come and go.

I actually see a few yachtmaster II on peoples wrist. I was just in St Barths and saw a few. Also saw one on the beach in Anguilla. I think they are more common than you think.

I can see these things happening.

The Datejust dial options are a little bloated at the moment. I can see the need to streamline.

I've never really been a fan of the Yacht Master II. I'm not sure it's a great seller. Rolex looks to be expanding the standard Yacht Master range with 42mm options. It could be that they just want to position the standard model as "the" boating reference.

The Yacht Master II has an interesting complication, it's just not practical for most. The watch has always seemed a bit confused.

That YM II would have been incredible with its unique movement if it was a 40mm, instead of Invicta-sizing.

So if all motif dials are discontinued I will no longer be able to get my wife the floral dial. Its pretty sad if true. It think of all the dials the DJ has, the different motifs are the the most exciting. The Fluted dials are the best addition by far to the collection in my opinion. Rolex finally got back to the creativity in the dials in that range.

I always thought the regatta timer of the Yachtmaster II is such a cool complication, but I can’t even pretend to have a reason to ever use it or wear it. I imagine between its divisive appearance and nicheness of the complication, it does not get a lot of love.

I bet more YM-II owners grill more steaks than start regattas.

I wonder if the aesthetics of the YMII actually diminishes the perception of all the YM range?

The YM40 & the RLX are amazing pieces, & their standing may reach deserved heights with the loss of their ugly sibling! (Well, assuming that anyone can actually get hold of an RLX )
