Aftermarket clasps

Would it be blasphemy to put a Ginault clasp on a 16610 Sub? For the milled steel and the adjustment capability?
Just use the clasp. Not the whole bracelet.

Just the clasp

The clasp alone is only $65.00. I would use the original bracelet. Strap Co also sells aftermarket clasps that fit the 16610 and other Rolex. People don't like the old stamped clasps so I was wondering if others have used these easy link aftermarket clasps.

Ah that makes sense. I thought the clasp alone was $269. I’d give it a shot if you aren’t happy with the oem clasp

The Ginault clasp is excellent. Much nicer than any of the other knockoffs I’ve tried. I tried to buy their clasp separately and they only sell it with the whole bracelet. So the listings that seem to be just the clasp are knockoffs of a knockoff.

They’ve just upgraded the bracelet. Does it fit any of the Sub models do we know?

11 series clasps?

I know people hear have put them on older subs. 16610 subs. Any comments or pictures? Your thoughts?

Personally, I feel that as long as the aftermarket clasp doesn't have the oyster shell on it, it's just a generic upgrade for increased comfort. It's your watch.

I think owning a Ginault is blasphemy enough, lol. You do know they used to manufacture fake 5 digit Rolexes prior to throwing on the Ginault logo right? That's why it's literally a copy of a 5 digit Sub

I have had an aftermarket clasp which I believe is a copy of a 116610 on my AK 116900 for over a year. Got it on eBay for like $80. 316l steel with ez glide. No Rolex markings. Has held up really well. Clasp is made well. I don't like the clasp that comes with the 116900. I need that safety latch for peace of mind.

Aftermarket parts will be looked down upon by some, but others can certainly see the upgrade in replacing an early tuna can clasp.

It's your watch, treat it kindly, but wear it how you want to wear it.

Personally, I think that Rolex would make a fortune by selling their newer billet clasps for those of us with early, tired, bracelets.

I own a Ginault OR2, and it co-exists with my Rolexes (and other watches) just fine thanks!

It's not a straight 5 digit clone at all - it's more of a mash-up of what could be described as a "Rolex greatest hits" - 5 digit Sub case, maxi-dial, 6 digit SD ceramic bezel insert, Milsub hands (with a Yachtmaster seconds hand), and a 6 digit bracelet and clasp. I actually think of it more as what Tudor could've been producing today if they stayed true to their original ethos - i.e. watches made with Rolex cases and bracelets with a third-party movement.

Loads of people can't seem to move on from the controversy about their dubious/opaque history, but TBH their watches are excellent and speak for themselves in terms of quality.

But to the question posed earlier in this thread, yes the bracelet does fit (certainly some) 5 digit Rolexes.

Who cares what “they” say. Your money, your watch, your comfort.

I’ve had people give me crap for wearing my 124060 on an Erica’s… “how can you wear a $10k watch on a $100 strap?!?” - I’m like “my watch bro, not yours…”.

Only sell the bracelet and clasp.

Not separately. I don't think it would be to cool to wear the aftermarket whole bracelet and keep the Rolex one on ice. That to me would ruin the Sub DNA as far as wearability. But that one sure looks like the real thing and you could beat it up and have the glidelock.

There have been a number of posts here about it over the years. Fits fine and works as well as OEM.

As far as a history manufacturing clones goes, that's how many companies get started. It's not like Rolex invented the wristwatch or something.

"Can't seem to move on" - It's kind of a big deal though isn't it? Funding a company with illegal proceeds. Not only that, the company then builds directly on the success of the brand they illegally counterfeited.

Not to mention patentviolation in their current models. But yeah you're right, let's support all of that!

Even doing so, on a fan-forum of the company whose product they used to counterfeit.

Bro, this is WILD.

Mention Ginault and it always elicits strong opinions.

All I will say is that lots of companies (including some very well-known, incredibly popular and successful multinationals) have very dubious pasts if you do some digging.

Whatever they did before, Ginault are NOW is making some excellent quality homages, and their unbranded clasps/bracelets will fit 5 digit Subs.
