I heard from someone the DD40 case is actually 39mm and not 40mm. Is this true?

Rolex is notorious for rounding up and down its case width numbers. You’re right to ask.

I have read on this forum many times that a DJ41 is actually 39mm. I have one and it’s probably true. It wears a lot smaller than my Submariner, and especially my 42mm Seamaster.

So maybe a DD40 is only 39mm.

This is not accurate. Rolex advertised numbers are rarely accurate, for example, the Daytona has never been 40mm.

Rolex measures there ase from 4 to 10 I believe.
The case flares out slightly there.
So yes they are all overstated.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Tim Mosso give a width reading that’s not the official reading. I wouldn’t trust Watchbox for this particular type of measurement.

Approximately, yes.

Just as the DJ41 is approximately 40mm

And steel (+yellow gold on Oyster) Daytonas were just under 39mm and are now just under 40mm

Tim is very specific comparing it to DD II: 41mm diameter 53.2mm lug to lug and “both exactly” 12mm thick.

The case flares out as it goes to the lugs, so as mentioned earlier, all Rolex watch diameters are overstated.

Yes, it's not fully 40mm although I don't have my DD and calipers with me at the moment to give you an exact measurement. The DD does run ever so slightly smaller than 40mm though.

It’ll depend on who measures it, how they measure and whether they’re calipers are properly calibrated

I measured my watch with calipers last night. It’s a YG DD 40. I measured 3:30 to 9:30 on the case.

You can get different measurements as you go around the case, as it is not a perfect circle.
