Learned something new today
Did you know who designed the Radiomir case and the Luminor crown protector?
Turns out that in 1935 ROLEX not only supplied movements, but actually provided cases for the Panerai diving watches for the Royal Italian navy. So Rolex and Panerai are very closely related. I was shocked to learn this. |

I think it was mentioned in the Jeff Hess book. I too was floored when I saw the first prototypes that Rolex designed for Panerai. Looks a lot like what they're selling now. No wonder I like them.
Oops! Am I allowed to admit that on TRF? |

It is wild to see the prices the original ones command!! I wish more Rolex fans new this, perhaps they would stop bashing Panerai so much. Rolex and Panerai are a perfect pair, they do not compete with each other at all in my mind. Both are sports watches, one 99% of people will always wear on the bracelet and the other allows you to easily change amongst an endless # of options. I love both, Id hate to have to pick just one brand if I had to....

I ve read few articles in the past and PANERAI models derived from Rolex.. especially the Rads... it will be great to have a PNEREX... a Panerai with a rolex engine... just like the PAM 21... but i think with the in house movement Panerai are achieving this..
